my first patient was a 21 year old male with full blown AIDS that didn't even go from HIV+ to AIDS but was diagnosed the first time with AIDS. very sad. luckily i had a partner the very first clinical and she was a chatterbox and older so very comfortable talking to patients. i got off easy... i let her do all the talking!

Does anyone know what this is?
this is just a guess but... since neurosis is a very old-school term in psychology refering to being overly nervous/anxious (think of someone you would call neurotic) i would say intern neurosis is the anxious nature of an intern... too simple? maybe but sometimes you just have to guess good luck!

Is Drug Addiction a Disease?
In my opinion mental illnesses are DISEASES... they are treated with medication, they are genetic in nature, and they affect millions, just like cancer, just like heart disease. No one ever chooses to be schizophrenic or bipolar or OCD or addicted... it just happens. Addiction runs in my family on my paternal side (along with CA and CVD- triple whammy!) and I have seen its devastating effects... i don't think anyone in their right mind would ever make the choice to waste their life drinking or snorting or shooting up. i think it is a disease process that creeps up on someone over time just like so many long term illnesses do.
