Here is the situation. I work in a residential facility for kids with psych/behavioral disorders. They currently give all kinds of OTC's with no standing order, just a consent upon admission from...
How do I get a standing order? How long are they good for? Who will give the standing order if we have no peds doc on staff? Believe me, she doesnt know these things, so I would like to go in with...
Wish me luck...... and thanks for your input... Just let me ask again...... I have every right to be concerned here, correct? Can you in any circumstance , think this would be ok? Just dont want to...
I have decided.... I am going in tomorrow, and bringing it up, telling her we need orders for these otc's, and we cant be administering meds the current way.I just havent figured out the exact words,...
How did admin even find out? Dollar for Dollar, no, it makes no difference. But the problem lies in, as others have said, where another nurse will be on one day, and not be willing to give her lunch...
Jcaho is a voluntary certification, in fact, the facility has to pay to even be evaluated. But the facility I work in, isnt even considered a "health care facility" it is a residential care...
You know, I have been saying that I work with a bunch of dim wits at this place (meaning admin, all the residential staff, etc), and now, in all seriousness, I am glad. Glad they dont have a clue...
omg, jill.... thank you for sharing... we do that all...the....time........I mean, like every day, not even for "emergency"... whenever we can do it, we do it. And I know its wrong. I just cant...
no medical director.... we do have a psychiatrist on staff, but he does nothing but the psych meds. we take the kids to a peds office in the community. i hear your sense of concern, i have it myself....
Really, we report to nobody...... I saw some sticker on a door that said something about "national residential facilities" or something, but really, nothing that we answer
I thought of that too. But I heard, once the med is dispensed, there is no refund....so they would just be "wasted" anyway.... BTW, I am in no way arguing with you, I am just repeating what I had...
Nobody. Its a non profit agency. I would rather not report it, would rather "fix" it, because I really like working there...just dont know how to bring it up to her, and if she fights me on it, I dont...
Yes, and whats the call for? If she is on call to work a *night* shift, like I asked in a previous post, they wouldnt be calling her at night, they would be calling her beforehand to tell her she...
Is it a call list for people to come in mid shift for admissions or something, or is it for call ins? If its the latter, you probably wouldnt be called in the middle of the night *for* a night...

Issey, great post!!! Really, greatpotential, that post is the bulk of what we need to do, over and over again!!! Our minds need to be tuned to these things automatically. I thought, too, I would never...
thanks... would anybody know if this would apply to kids in a "residential facility"? Like I said, we have a consent signed, but no order from any md. it just doesnt seem
Parents are allowed in, they hold the little ones until they are masked down, or sit with an older child til they are masked down, then they are escorted
I have had the fortune with working with docs very closely, as in they were my co workers, so, it was always on a first name basis. If I met a doc I didnt know, they always would say," HI, I am...
