  1. obesity diagnosis?

How would you word a nursing diagnosis for obesity? I'm thinking about using knowledge deficient so my interventions can include teaching. Any other ideas?
  2. Study Pharm before first semester?

I agree. Pharm is no biggie. You'll do WAY more learning about meds in your actual nursing classes and clinical preps.
  3. Why Apothecaries system??

I hear that!! We need to go to celcius as well (althrough SI is kelvin). After all the science classes we take you really start to wonder what's up with inches, yards, etc! I've always wanted to count everything in moles too. That would just be w...
  4. Why Apothecaries system??

We didn't have to learn this and I've never seen it in the hospital. I'm at a teaching hospital in CA so maybe they expect the MDs to be more with the times.
  5. What is your day like?

I'm feeling very discouraged with nursing after only two weeks of clinical. I'm in my 2nd semester of my BSN program. My clinical instructor thinks that I am way better suited for ICU so I'd love to hear what your day is like (in general) in the IC...

  7. Nursing school - loving it? Hating it?

just have to say this applies to about 99% of people who get into nursing programs! i guess lottery may be different but at least at my school no one got in with below a 3.5 or below an 89% on the teas. nursing school is just a totally different bea...
  8. a&p for rn is typically a two semester series (1 year) and a&p for lvn is a more basic overview and only 1 semester. they are both college level (at least at the college i took a&p-may be different elsewhere) and it has nothing to do wit...
  9. In need of some moral support: VENT

Not saying you need it but I was feeling the same way and my doc just put me on Zoloft. I told many of my classmates and a lot of them admitted to recently starting antidepressants as well. I was initially surprised but when you think of all the st...
  10. A surreal dismissal

i personally think it's absurd that you'd be kicked out for any of that or any combination of those events. yikes! i'm so sorry this happened to you. when i hear stuff like this i feel like i'm in the only nursing program that wants its students t...
  11. Why are some nursing students so negative?

hello to the op. i have a slightly different take on nursing school. i'm in second semester (of 5). i personally feel that the content, book wise, is simpler (as in less in depth) than the pre requisites, but you must be able to apply everything w...
  12. I need help making some decisions.

I'm in my second semester of my BSN program and I am hating it. I love the patients, my clinical instructor, my clinical group, my hospital, love it all, but I can't stand the tasks that I am doing. They consider it "critical thinking" to not give in...

  14. Applying to Sacramento State's ASBSN Summer 2008

I wear cargo pocket dickies. They're great for holding lots of stuff. I'm sure you can wear "scrub pants" that look more like normal pants. A few of my classmates have zip up white pants. If they don't stand out you'll be fine. Some of us don't ...
  15. Applying to Sacramento State's ASBSN Summer 2008

Just jumping in here. I'm a BSN student at CSUS and have never seen any faculty in the nursing building without names tags that say at least MS. Most faculty that lecture are PhDs. I do wonder how rumors like this get started! Some clinical instr...
  16. Is my stethoscope working the right way?

i'm a student and have a cardiology iii. i can hear way better on my stethoscope than on my classmates but i also hear a ton of extra noise. if i barely move my finger across the back of the diaphragm i hear a loud noise. if i tap the tube i hear a l...

  18. What is your day like?

I posted this same thing on the ICU page and would love to heare from the ED RNs too. I'm feeling very discouraged with nursing after only two weeks of clinical. I'm in my 2nd semester of my BSN program. My clinical instructor thinks that I am way be...
  19. What is your day like?

Yes, total care. I guess I'm the aid! I'm not sure what my classmates at other hospitals do since all I do is aid stuff. The patients stay from one to six or so weeks normally. All the nurses had this kind of load. It seemed more like they were l...

  21. What is your day like?

Thanks! I'm hoping to be shocked by how complex it will be. That would actually make me feel a ton better. I do enjoy figuring out EKGs so maybe I'll work on that some more.

  25. What is your day like?

that does make a lot of sense, like anything you do all the time it would become a kind of second nature i suppose. i'm just really missing the science and problem solving that was involved in pre requisites. nursing school seems so superficial com...
