How would you word a nursing diagnosis for obesity? I'm thinking about using knowledge deficient so my interventions can include teaching. Any other ideas?

You have to determine what the patient's responses are to the obesity. A nursing diagnosis is just identifying the patient's nursing problem in relation to this. I don't often talk about this on the forums, but I have had gastric bypass surgery for obesity so I know a bit about the diagnosis. I would be very surprised to hear that this patient discussed her eating disorder with you. Most people who have a serious obesity problem hide their true eating habits very much like alcoholics deny and hide their drinking. There are self-esteem, body image and coping problems connected with obesity. Imbalanced nutrition is only a small part of the problem.
