  1. Hi, I'm a current accelerated nursing student and haven't picked my NP specialty yet. I have an interest in working in rural and remote areas that are typically underserved. I originally considered Womens/Reproductive Health or Psych, but am now wondering if Family or Adult/Gero Acute care makes more sense because of the need for general knowledge. I know all of them are important for those communities so I'm struggling to figure out what the best choice is to begin. I'm interested in emergency care but wonder if I would still experience that anyways being in a remote area, or if being a Family primary care NP would limit me to serving patients with primary care concerns. I have time to figure it out but I just want to hear from other people who've gone this route or worked overseas (outside the U.S.), in rural or very remote locations, in national parks/forests and reservations, in flight and rescue services, etc.
  2. Hi! I applied early admission so I got my response awhile back but I got in and never had to do any formal interview. You're probably fine!
  3. I applied for both but only was admitted to the ABSN which makes sense because I have limited direct healthcare background, and is still a better outcome than I expected. If you haven't gotten any emails, try login in to your portal and clicking your application to see updates.
  4. It's a creative and diverse city, but smaller and less ritzy as NYC or DC. West Philly, Southwest Philly, Manayunk, and the surrounding suburbs, especially along the Septa train lines to the west/northwest are the best places to live nearby. Having a car there is ideal but if you live in center city or travel there often it can be very expensive to park. There is great public transit however. I personally moved out of the city years ago after being there 5 years and have no regrets but if you love good food, live music, art, community, etc you will love the city. I'm also a bit older to be fair, I graduated my undergrad 8 years ago.
  5. I also was curious about finding out people opinions on their experience at UPenn especially for the accelerated BSN portion. I don't see much but I do have friends and family who were UPenn students in other disciplines and they are big fans. I'm local to the area too so if you haven't visited or know much about Philly and the surrounding towns, feel free to ask me!
  6. Hi, I was accepted to the ABSN portion of the program and really did not expect to so I'm in an unplanned pickle. I still have several prerequisites to do and was wondering if they are pretty serious about having them done by June. In that case I'd have to quit my job right now and enroll in the rest of them to have them done by June. Does anyone have any suggestions or know if that's a hard deadline?
  7. So did everyone get an email that notified them of an update before they found out if they're in or waitlisted? I didn't get an email and my application page still just says "submitted" so I'm wondering if that's what everyone who hasn't heard back is seeing/experiencing. Also worried that if we didn't hear back it's because they send the acceptances and waitlists first ?
  8. Hi everyone, getting close to time to hear back. Could anyone share their undergrad GPAs / pre-req GPAs and work backgrounds?
  9. Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has done research about complications in pregnancy or pregnancy loss. I’m early on my path to becoming a nurse but wondering if there is a possibility to do research in those areas or if that is more of something MD students or practitioners would do. Is there somewhere I can look to find nurse research in those areas? Thank you!
  10. Hey everyone, sorry to revive an old thread but I'm looking into applying to Johns Hopkin's Entry into Nursing program and wondering how many pre-reqs you'd completed prior to applying, how many you had currently in progress, if you took any after being admitted and how many you took at once if you used their online option.
