NCLEX results on hold??
Congratulations!! ?

Challenge NCLEX
I'm a bit confused... are you trying to challenge the NCLEX-RN or the PN? I don't think you will be successful for the RN if you didn't finish med surg, but I'm not sure, since it's an MSN program. What reason did the DON give for not signing?

NCLEX results on hold??
I would think that if your test cut off at 85 questions, you likely passed. But am I right? Did you pass and how long did it end up taking to get your results?

What To Expect From WGU, RN-BSN
Thank you for this vital information! I'm wondering, how strict are they about essays? I have intense writing anxiety, so much so that I will just procrastinate forever rather than writing an essay. This is my biggest hesitation about RN-BSN programs: they seem like they require a million papers. Do you think WGU might be a good fit? How many essays total? Thanks for any info!

Burnout
I have found a book that has really helped me. It's called Trauma Stewardship: An Everyday Guide to Caring for Self While Caring for Others. There is a website about it also: https://traumastewardship.com/ It just gives tools and suggestions for managing burnout for roles like ours where we are exposed to lots of other people's trauma. I have been burned out in the past and using some of the strategies in the book has helped me a lot! I can completely relate to your struggle and I wish you all the best. I am going back to get my RN in Jan so I'm trying to strengthen my own coping strategies to prepare since I know I will feel more stressed.

Life in the vaccine clinic (can I whine for just a moment?)
I am the sole vaccine nurse for my clinic's outreach vaccine clinics, and man, I can absolutely relate to your sentiments! It takes me forever, and unfortunately, I am not allowed to transport prefilled syringes, so I have to rush to prep a million different sge ranges of Pfizer doses as soon as I get to wherever the site is, while patients are already waiting (why do they always come early?). Flu shots too. It's nerve wracking! Thanks for acknowledging the frustrating air/squirting thing too! So nice to commiserate with y'all.

Wage Negotiation
Yes, you can still negotiate. Usually there is a pay scale range for each position, so you can negotiate to be on the higher end of that range.

Wanted to be a nurse forever, but A&P is so difficult
I found a lot of Youtube videos very helpful. Crash Course is a good series with short recaps. Youtube helped me since I am more of a visual learner, and there is an endless supply of videos with different ways of teaching/ covering the topic. Kahn Academy on YT is another good one. It also helped me to highlight key terms in my textbooks using specific colors. For example, orange was a body part, purple was a definition or key term, red was a side effect or disease process. The other thing I would suggest is making concept maps/ idea maps. Here's a video on that:

How hard is it to land a very first nursing job with ADN in California?
I don't think you will have much of an issue getting a job in the specialties you mentioned. Hospitals may require a BSN, but many corrections/ psych/ home/ outpatient companies would consider you I think. Good luck!

GCU NRS 493 Capstone
Sorry to hear about your difficulties. I am not in that program, so I really don't have much to add, except to say, hang in there. Sounds like you may be close to graduating, so keep your eye on the prize. Good luck!

Guns at the Bedside
Wow, I live in Az too, and am kind of blown away by how lax (read: nonexistent) the gun laws are here. I know we are a super conservative state but I didn't realize the extent of it. Scary.

So Happy To Be Out Of Nursing
Davey Do, I just want to tell you that you are a delight to read. You inspire me everyday, as a fellow self-described artist to try to remember to nurture my creative spark, even though I am often exhausted by my nursing job. Thank you! And thank you, Emergent, for reminding me that there is hope for moving on when needed.

Week Three of Orientation and I’m Worried and Want to Quit…
The things you describe are unfortunately par for the course in hospitals. If you value your time and also breaks, I encourage you to look to outpatient settings- I work at a FQHC and love it. I work four 10 hour shifts, with an additional hour lunch, and plenty of opportunity to take breaks when needed. There are lots of other positions in nursing, not just med-surg in acute care. Explore more of them. Nothing wrong with prioritizing your work-life balance!

Artificial Intelligence in the GI Lab
Thank you for the article. While I agree with you that AI will inevitably become more pervasive in every aspect of life, it still really creeps me out. I also wonder if physicians using this might be lulled into a false sense of security and skimp on their own visual contribution. Just a thought.

Cell Phone Use at Work: Is It Appropriate?
Good article. Personally, I hate using my cell phone at work. I resent that I am basically forced to in order to communicate with management/other staff quickly, and yet my employer does not contribute to the bill or supply the phone.
