Does RN experience affect NP salary quote?

Depends on their negotiating ability. I regularly make more than colleagues because I refuse to accept pay below what I am worth while many others are willing to take first offers. Always negotiate!

    Reference Recommendation

This is the correct answer. It's a small little ring or spiral bound book that basically has a quick reference for every common primary care problem with name, stats, exams and tests/labs that should be completed, referrals sometimes needed, and trea...

Chronicles of a VA APRN Resident

Mine was like 85K annually. we learned the VA residency programs are all different. For example, we got the full vacation allowance (all holidays, 24 days PTO, 12 sick) but another VA only got 2 weeks PTO total for all residents. we also di...
  4. From the website: Applicants to the MSN in Nursing Education must provide the following information for admission: A bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, or from an in...
  5. I mean, the Capella acceptance rate is 100%, they advertise getting a masters in 13 months and “payment plans”, they have coupons for the admissions fee, and for admission they only require a bachelors (with a 2.8 GPA!?), RN license, and application....
  6. Congrats! Some people who buy lottery tickets also end up winning! It doesn’t make it the norm or a safe bet.
  7. Will it keep you from getting a job in general? No. Will it make you less competitive for desirable jobs? Yes! I have had numerous employers tell me I was interviewed/chosen over other candidates because of the schools on my resume. In a sea of ...

    Feeling Lost As An NP

14 days (less than 3 weeks) PTO does not seem good. Why do so many NPs accept having no work-life balance I wonder?

Is this experience typical for a new grad NP situation?

Yes, I meant as part of school training. Obviously residency/fellowship is specialized but in terms of PA vs Resident vs NP the NP is the only one who comes out of school specialized in their field with a program catering to a specific population. Th...

Is this experience typical for a new grad NP situation?

Agreed. I think the FNP specialty should require 2000+ hours of clinical and perhaps even more credits, and focus only on primary care. FNPs should then be able to work only in primary care. Again, the other specialties are generally fine at legit sc...

Is this experience typical for a new grad NP situation?

I mainly agree with numenor as NP education has become laughable. Even when just typing the word nurse practitioner into Google the top hits are for for-profit programs offering easy admissions. There are schools with absolutely no standards where an...

Is this experience typical for a new grad NP situation?

I advocate for independent practice but I feel it should only be accessible to NPs who went to not for profit programs, completed a residency, and have ample post school training. Independence after 500 clinical hours is laughable.

Chronicles of a VA APRN Resident

There’s no preference for jobs after the residency and you still are considered an external applicant. Lots of vacation and job security but very low pay. I thought I wanted to stay on but after seeing the politics and pay scale and getting a job off...

Chronicles of a VA APRN Resident

Paperwork for VA residency is insane. It took months with all the background checks etc. The residency experience was amazing though, as was being a gov employee with 40 something paid PTO days to use during my residency plus every federal holiday of...

How does the clinical project work?

Hello everyone, I'm master's prepared, interested in pursuing a DNP degree. I assumed as a "practice based" (as opposed to the phd) it would mostly be clinical in nature with extra science courses. Every program I look at talks about implementin...

Struggling no experience NP need guidance

Above poster is right. 500 clinical hours, online for profit programs with minimal oversight and 1000s of students per class, half the credits used on fluff role transition courses instead of hard sciences, no hands on labs or skills courses. The NP ...

    The MD Bias Hits Home

Unfortunate and unfair, but yea things like this will be more common as long as number of graduating NPs stays so high each year and schools churn out record numbers. It makes NPs less desirable and easier to replace.

Total Number of Nurse Practitioners Hits 325,000

According to latest AANP survey, the total number of nurse practitioners in the United States is now at 325,000. Last year it was at 290,000 so it increased by 35,000 or 12% in one year. There are approx. 9,000 physician assistant graduates...

    PMHNP Walden

I mean, we're happy you have had a good experience but it doesn't change reality. As mentioned countless times Walden has no entry standards, teaches mostly via modules and self-learning, makes you set up your own clinical, and operates entirely on a...
