My husband hires new grads for his department and they all start out around $65K/yr as Engineers. You would think a nurse would be given at least that! I'm going on 20 yrs as a BSN RN and the most I've made is $60K/yr.

I believe you have no choice but to judge. I listen, watch and react to my patients based on the situation. If I think their behavior is harmful to their self care then I judge. For instance, a smoker with diabetes and a non healing wound. Their A1c...

You'll make friends in clinicals. Everyone is going to be stressed out during lectures. Instructors are a breed unto their own. Don't base your self worth on their acceptance. I purposefully didn't engage or make myself known to them & did just f...

I've been type 1 for over 10 years and I totally agree with veggie530. Hypo events which I've had plenty are very easily fixed. You can't always predict bs reactions I'm frequently off as much as 30% with my estimations (carb counts and insulin/bs #'...
I vote for trying an Eakins Seal. As long as you get the base dry first. Try using skin prep then stoma powder then skin prep - Make the base feel like dry sandpaper - then Eakins. It's worth the $$
I feel for you. I've had pt's in the same boat. They can last awhile. Silver wound vac foam would work well. I'm a big fan of KCI's vac. I've done many on inpatient pilnoidial cyst's. I've used ostomy paste or strips to build up around the cyst - it ...
what is the deal with msn programs? i have seriously looked at hundreds of nursing schools online. some admission requirements are out of this world. you would think these programs would try to be competitive with each other. why are some programs 3...

i'm a diabetic who carb counts & shoots - fast acting insulin. so think of it this way: your pt has a pre meal glucose of 115. she's provided 50 carbs to eat. if you dose her before she eats she could bottom out if she doesn't eat. the "old" way:...

Has anyone ever heard of a physician writing a criticism towards a nurse in a progress note? Are they not taught this is a legal record in med school? Of course, the doc got away with this immaturity. I keep thinking if this ever went to court..........

Is the pt walking on this ulcer? It needs to be properly off loaded or the build up cycle will continue. Regranx might be an option if the base is clean. Is it being occassionally sharp debrided?
If you are SURE it's a pressure derived ulcer then stage it. I would on the other hand just DESCRIBE what you see. I'm not a Doctor Is it open? then...... Note Anatomical Location (i.e., sacrum, tibia, L iliac crest , T3 area) being vaque is ok just ...
Just an FYI... I've had to use epi the last two camps I've worked at. One of these campers didn't have their own epi pen. I would NOT work at a camp that didn't have a dedicated physician. YOUR license isn't worth loosing. Parents believe me are not ...
I've lived and worked in Ft. Worth all my 38 years. My two cents: Downtown is expensive, TCU has many affordable rentals but if cost is really an issue look at South Hulen close to Hulen Mall. You can get to TCU quickly - less than 15 min in the am -...
