  1. Hello.. I have just taken boards on December 13 th for my license as a practical nurse and I passed it with 85 questions in an hour. Okay, I am not here to bring any attention to myself because, God is the reason for my success. However, I am here to encourage your hearts, doubts, fears, and uncertainties about whether you can, will and should retake boards ,if this is your case; that you are going to make it!!!!!!!!! I promise you can and will conquer this thing. You are reading the email of a mother of three boys and husband who has always wanted to be a nurse. In 2005 my life was suddenly impacted with the affects of hurricane Katrina. I enrolled in college with three sets of clothes. No car,no job!!! I was an A student in my core classes and made my first B in Nursing school. I dealt more than anything with the battlefield in my mind telling me I couldn't make it. I had to take a HESI examination and did not take boards until three months of completion of Nursing school. God is in control. Your life is purposed and he wants to bless you. If you failed don't give up . If you are scheduled affirm your completion and do it. I am so proud and thankful to a great GOD for my license. I do intend to go back for my RN but when he seasons my time. Bless you guys.
  2. Normally a tesio is placed until they can get the access put in. Although, it's going to be placed it's not ready for immediate use. The catheter however, will be. I am sorry anout your friends father.
  3. They are both A. An aneurysm can cause hypoactive bowel sounds and we need to ensure that they are active. The second question is A because of the absent pulses. ABC"S
  4. Hey Guys, I am in nursing school and doing exceptionally well. We started out with 37 students, and we are now down to 15. The semester is not over. This school is notorious for gradutaing anywhere from 3-10 students. I see why. Initially, we were told whatever instructor lectures, that's who grades the test. There are two instructors who are witches of eastwick. They have no respect for the other two instructors. They will barge in on her lectures, grade her test and you just totally know that they do not like her. We have a 1/3 rule. If you fail three test with less than a 70% you are out of the program regardless of your average. If they do not feel your short answers are "NURSEY" enough they will mark an entire question wrong. Even though they state repeatedly we know what you are trying to say. They discourage you in your checkoffs. You can only retake a checkoff with a "u" once afterwhich, you are out of the program even if you are an A student. They make statements such as ," Don't be happy about getting an "S" it doesn't mean you're ready. They are so discouraging. I have seen people let go for this type of crap. Before, some one gets to high on their pedestal. I understand the significance of Nursing, but we are not born nurses and these rules are crap. There are other schools in the area graduating 20-30 prudent students. This process was competitive so, they got the best of the best. What in the hell is wrong?:angryfire :angryfire :angryfire
  5. Curious me I get the same response. People always say, i know you got an A or don't worry you know you'll do fine. The truth is I do not worry but, the lord and I are always in conversation about Nursing. So, it's always a concern. I love the quote. It is powerful!!!
  6. BSNto be, I stated an opinion from my vantage point about my life and my grades. For me it takes discipline! I could easily involve myself in many other things aside from studying. I am raising three boys and am tired plenty of the time. By the way they are not teenagers. My husband carries the load financially but, he is at his job 40 hrs a week. Which means the load is mine to bare. So, having said that, it does , in my life, takes discipline. You are absolutely correct every one is different. I AM SOMEONE WHO has to study a week in advance before a test if applicable but, I am not studying all night. I hope you find what works for you and I hope you do well doing it.
  7. I truly think that grades depend on the discipline of the individual. I am a mother of three, married, had one child in basketball, one in tae kwon do,I took 12 credit hours a semester, and managed to make straight A's in all classes. A's on every test, quiz, project, final, ect. I finally made a B when I got into the nursing program. We had mid terms last week and my averages are 2A's and a B. Nursing school is stressful and I work my literal butt off to achieve all that I have. Additionally, I am a product of grace and mercy. All this to say I am not bragging. You have to work hard and be disciplined to make it. TEXASANGEL thankyou for your compliment. I have faith in you that you will do great as well.:)
  8. Yes, your scores are excellent. I had a 58 percentile, trust me you're good!!! I also had 4.0 average going into the program and there was no waiting list. It is competitive!! Your Net has set the bar really high. Let me know when you receive that letter!!!!
  9. Excellent!!!!you're In With Those Scores Alone!!!!
  10. I am one of those people who don't ask and i'd rather not be asked. It got to the point in my pre nursing classes no one asked, except the girl who sat beside me. They knew I made an A and she was always trying to compete . She was however, no competition. Now I am in Nursing school and have made my first set of B's. People ask your grades and they don't want to share theirs. I made an open announcement to my peers that I do not discuss my grades. If you see me still in the class you know I am doing well. We are required to make 70's on all test to stay in the program. I believe it's rude. Asking someone what they made on a test is the same as asking someone how much they make on their jobs. It's rude. I concur with commuter. Who cares? In Nursing, skills are everything!!! I'd rather the nurse who inserted a foley well versus the Nurse who made an A and couldn't remember how to.
  11. How do you guys handle dropping one letter grade? I was an A student and I have been in nursing school for a week. I have made B's so far on two test. Okay, it may not seem bad. For me it's an adjustment. The instructor grades hard. She will take of points for a missing semi-colon. I do eat some of the responsibility because, I am trying to be so thorough that I do fail to do some things. I know nursing is serious . I can see clearly her point in it all. I am just having a hard time adjusting. Any tips?
  12. Hey Tn Trauma Tech,it's normal to feel nervous. You are about to embark upon a new dimension in nursing and to embrace the dream of your career. Relax and just study Math(percentage, decimals, fractions, division, multiplication, reading comprehension, and you will be fine. With Math, if it's your weakest practice makes perfect. Take a few deep breaths and go for it!!! I took the Net test,I am not sure waht you are taking but, these tips should help.
  13. I had to submit two letter's, of recommendations,an autobiography,an entrance test(NET),have a decent G.P.A., with an emphasis on health prereq's,and they looked at scores on an entry test into the college. It was competitive at the college I attend and you pray that you are one of the ones chosen.
