These Nursing Instructors Are Horrible

Hey Guys,

I am in nursing school and doing exceptionally well. We started out with 37 students, and we are now down to 15. The semester is not over. This school is notorious for gradutaing anywhere from 3-10 students. I see why. Initially, we were told whatever instructor lectures, that's who grades the test. There are two instructors who are witches of eastwick. They have no respect for the other two instructors. They will barge in on her lectures, grade her test and you just totally know that they do not like her. We have a 1/3 rule. If you fail three test with less than a 70% you are out of the program regardless of your average. If they do not feel your short answers are "NURSEY" enough they will mark an entire question wrong. Even though they state repeatedly we know what you are trying to say. They discourage you in your checkoffs. You can only retake a checkoff with a "u" once afterwhich, you are out of the program even if you are an A student. They make statements such as ," Don't be happy about getting an "S" it doesn't mean you're ready.

They are so discouraging. I have seen people let go for this type of crap. Before,some one gets to high on their pedestal. I understand the significance of Nursing,but we are not born nurses and these rules are crap. There are other schools in the area graduating 20-30 prudent students. This process was competitive so, they got the best of the best. What in the hell is wrong?:angryfire :angryfire :angryfire

What is wrong is that people put up with that kind of treatment. Being tough to get good results out of people is one thing, treating you like doo-doo is another. If I was paying my hard-earned money to be there, I'd be writing to the head of the school with a petition from the students (so they can't single anyone out) stating examples (start documenting).

I agree with the other poster, we have a rule also, were if you make 2 tests with a 70 or below you are out regardless of your other test grades. Some students formulated a letter to the president of the school, requesting that this just can't be fair, since obviously someone can have an A average and 2 tests should not be deciding factor. Anyways the letter went around all our nursing classes , everyone who got their hands on it signed it, and of it went to the president. And guess what next semester this rule is no more. You guys need to stick together , I know some of it just can't be changed, but some things they are really, really ridiculous with.

Okay, I've had an even worse instructor yet. My instructor didn't say anything to the students. She did not teach, she was a wall flower. At times during clinical, nursing staff would ask us which one of you is the instructor? Our instructor lacked leadership qualities & I think this may have been the first time she had even taught a class. Needless to say, I didn't learn one thing from her and I was one anxious ball of stress due to the fact she was no where to be found. We as students had to get help from one another & even staff members because we couldn't find her anywhere. At the end of clincal, she was more concerned about her grocery list than teaching her students. Ridiculous!! She lacked all nursing skills, she never showed us how to do anything, she was never present during clinicals. I think that's by far more frightening than a teacher who picks on you. A teacher who picks on you at least is showing some kind of attention to her students rather than a teacher who is busy doing gawd knows what. Thank goodness for the other nursing students in my group- they were the ones I learned the most from! We had to teach one another while my instructor was off busy writing her grocery list for the week! Ridiculous!

That's exactly what I tried to do. Sadly, the Dean didn't seem to care or take notice of my concern. The program had a very low NCLEX passing rate & students have zero support from (some) staff. I had to report my concern to BRN to have someone just listen to me.

A failure rate that high is indicative of a teaching problem, not a student problem. I'd be gone like the wind.
