This profile is maintained by staff at the Medical Education Campus, Student Services Office at Northern Virginia Community College. We advise students on entry into our two-year associate's degree in nursing. We work closely with the application team which reviews all incoming applications to the nursing program.

The best thing for a student to do is to review our application portal, www.nvcc.edu/medical/apply and take a look at the information session and requirements documents there.

NOVA always uses your most recent grades. If you could only take one then we would say retake BIO 141 and improve your TEAS or if you haven't take any co-requisites do that. Not everyone that got in had Straight A's in the BIO 141/PSY 230 but most had at least an A/B in the two-plus either high TEAS and/or co-requisite courses. Maybe consider retaking BIO 141 and another co-requisite course plus a bump in your TEAS.

Excellent, If you get an A in PSY 230 that would be top marks on two of the four areas that points are assigned for. Don't forget to also take the ATI TEAS seriously. We look forward to seeing your application.

That rule applied to that application cycle. The current Health Sciences & Nursing TEAS Information document on the www.nvcc.edu/medical/apply portal states that your ATI TEAS results are good for Three Years. As long as the scores meet the minimums for the cycle you are applying for and the scores are still valid you can use them to apply.

How to Meet requirements by the next two application deadlines. The Next two nursing deadlines are March 20, 2020, for a Fall 2020 start and September 20, 2020, for a Spring 2021 start. Fall 2020 Applicants For students attempting a Fall 2020 start, they will need to finish all entry requirements and have a transfer credit posted to their account no later than March 20, 2020. Students that are still missing course work should explore taking a first eight-week course. You can find these for PSY 230, BIO 141, SDV 101, ENG 111, and many others. These courses all end before the March 20, 2020 deadline and can be used to apply. Be warned that if you plan on transferring courses, they need to be posted by that deadline. Spring 2021 Applicants Spring 2021 applicants have all of the spring and all of the summer to finish any missing requirements. You can take some full semester-length courses spring and summer and still meet the September 20, deadline. Avoid common pitfalls that will disqualify your application Don't forget that the most common reason an application is disqualified is that they have failed to satisfy one or more requirements. Do not assume you have met any requirements, verify that you have. As always, visit our application portal and review your information session and requirements document. www.nvcc.edu/medical/apply

Whomever you go with, remember that the BIO 141 grade is heavily weighted in the admissions process. Give it your all and go for an A. We have a Fall 2020 thread going.

Most Common Reasons Applications were not moved forward for Ranking, things to avoid Student Failed to regularly check the student email addresses and respond in a timely manner to request from application processing staff. There were some delays in processing and they don't expect letters/emails to go out until the week of the 28th. However, it could be before assuming everything lines up and gets done.

The Mason co-enrollment has a sample schedule to give you an idea. Students report that it puts a strain on them to do the program, but that if you've done your co-requisites ahead of time you can do it. If you start the NOVA nursing program fall 2020, you would apply and then start your first semester with Mason Spring 2021. Mason tends to send representatives your first semester to talk about and recruit eligible students for the co-enrollment program. https://nursing.gmu.edu/academics/bsn-programs/co-enrollment-bsn-program-non-veteran Note that the sample schedule has not been updated to the new NSG curriculum.

If you are doing mason co-enrollment, they won't let you start that until your second semester in the NOVA nursing program. If you are doing Mason Advance than its a little different.
