This profile is maintained by staff at the Medical Education Campus, Student Services Office at Northern Virginia Community College. We advise students on entry into our two-year associate's degree in nursing. We work closely with the application team which reviews all incoming applications to the nursing program.

The best thing for a student to do is to review our application portal, www.nvcc.edu/medical/apply and take a look at the information session and requirements documents there.

If you are in possession of a copy of your high school transcript make sure to scan it or save it as a pdf and attach it to your nursing application. Not providing your high school transcript is probably the number 1 reason applicants are turned down.

Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) Spring 2021

The Health Science and Nursing Application states that the program takes 100 every session. If the accept fewer it is because of external circumstances. The normal range is 200-300, however, if any requirement is waived that number always shoots up. You should be submitting your HS transcript with your application. upload an unofficial copy of your US transcript or an unofficial copy of your evaluation report if it is a foreign high school.
  5. Hello All, We are the Advisors and Counselors at the Medical Education Campus with Northern Virginia Community College. We will attempt to answer your questions about the upcoming Spring 2021 Nursing admissions process. Application website https://www.nvcc.edu/medical/apply/ Application Period July 20 to September 20 Entry Requirments All course work must be final by the program deadline of September 20, 2020. Course work that Ends after the deadline of September 20, 2020, will not count has not transferred AND posted to your NOVA account from an external school Including other VCCS schools, will not count. For example, you submit your GMU transcript on September 20, 2020, and your transfer credit post-September 31, your applicants would have been rejected. Common reasons applications don't make it past the initial review for eligibility The student did not take a course listed as an entry requirement The student took a course listed as an entry requirement but never transferred the credit to NOVA via the official transfer credit process. The student had a C- or did not take a required high school level course The student never provided their high school transcript with their application. We are still waiting on the final word for the ATI TEAS exam. Check our website for an update on July 17. GPA of 2.5 at NOVA or if you have never taken NOVA courses a 2.5 at your most recent school Completion of ENG 111 or higher Completion of SDV 101 or SDV 100 Completion of BIO 141 Completion fo PSY 230 Completion of Open elective [ BIO 150 and BIO 142 can not be used as open electives] Provide high school transcript- If your high school was in a different country you will need a course by course evaluation by either www.ece.org or www.ierf.org. All students regardless of the level of education are required to provide their high school transcripts not doing so will automatically flag your application and lead to a rejection Show that you took and passed in high school or college with a C or better [not C-]. If you took some other science course in place of Chemistry for example it is likely that it will not count. BIology Algebra Chemistry How will you be ranked Ranking criteria are listed on the information session( and in the nursing brochure (https://www.nvcc.edu/academics/divisions/nursing/_docs/nsg-brochure.pdf) ) Please carefully review these documents and follow all steps to submit a complete application.

Unless specified by the school you are applying to PSY 200 and SOC 200 are not recommended courses. We would encourage you to look at the requirements for those other schools before settling on a course. Most students take PHI 227, MTH 154, MTH 245 as electives to help them when moving onwards to their next level of nursing education. Be sure to double-check with your transfer school prior to committing to a course. We are awaiting word from the college president and community college chancellor for what the fall will look like.

HIS 101 was part of the humanities elective list prior to 2017. It is no longer advised to take that course for MEC programs. Make sure you are looking at the catalog for the year you started the nursing program. Not the one from when you started taking pre-requisites. https://www.nvcc.edu/catalog/index.html From what we have observed, students on average earn a letter grade lower than they would have in a full-term course. Unless that person has prior experience with the subject or is particularly good at time management.

-------------------------------------------- GPA and Number of Applicants GPA is used only to make sure you are eligible. Your NOVA GPA must be 2.5, if you don't have a GPA at NOVA your last school GPA is looked at. GPA is not used in the ranking of students. Applicant Pools have been as little as 100 to as many as 600. various factors impact the size of the applicant pool. We have a near the record-high number of applications. The specific number of applicants is not available yet. NOVA nursing has accepted in the past between 60 and 220 students. As mentioned by one of the earlier commentators, that has stabilized at 100. Help MEC process faster Please avoid swamping the application team with questions as it greatly delays their work. Make sure you upload any document they ask for right away. If they ask for it, provide it via the online application ASAP. Students often assume their documents are on their NOVA record or that their bachelor's degree waives having to submit a high school transcript. It is stated on the application requirements document and on the application website. It does not state in any location that a degree waives providing high school transcripts. The high school transcript requirement has been on the website, information session, application portal, nursing brochure, etc long before COVID. The deadline was extended as a result of COVID to April 20. Students who were requesting high school transcripts the first week of March were already in non-compliance and at risk for not meeting requirements. If you submitted transcripts for evaluation by the college records office in March or April, you were already in non-compliance. Transfer credit must be posted to your NOVA record by the deadline. Credit posted after that will not be counted. Don't meet the requirements? Given the overwhelmingly large number of applications, there will be no exemptions granted or extra time provided. If you do not meet the requirements, you will have to apply for the next application cycle. The deadline and requirements are posted www.nvcc.edu/medical/apply.

We would lean towards no. Letters haven't normally gone out before the last week of May. However, If all goes well it could be before that. Most Co-enrollment programs allow you to start your second semester as well. agreed
