What makes a good nursing supervisor?

Love this. I was actually thinking about this myself. I wanted to make rounds just to make sure everyone was getting their breaks/meals. I'm big on self care, especially going into a managerial role. If I get a break so do they. I also wanted to...

What makes a good nursing supervisor?

I think it'll be once a day for each unit. That's what I'm told, at least. But I'll be doing rounds multiple times a day just because that's how I am and I want to know what's going on at all times.

What makes a good nursing supervisor?

Thanks so much Davey! You hit the nail on the head. You also mentioned things I planned on doing, like lists and rounds of the floors. I have been checking out her threads, and they're very informative. Also thank you for that wond...

    Charting Bloopers

An order I recently D/C's due to being a duplicate and containing a swear word... "Monitor laying, sitting and standing BP every sh*t" 🤣😂

    LTC Falls

In this case, I believe it would be okay to give the Tylenol PRN. When did the fall happen, and when are they stating they have the headache? Did the patient hit their head? Are they able to tell you if they did or not? What part of the body was hit ...

    Rocky Start/Orientation and Nurse Confidence

I see everyone else has given yoou wonderful advice, but I want to jump back to that mental health/psychiatrist situation. Anxiety medications do have the chance to make you gain weight, yes. But your mental health is clearly a problem, and you ...

Did I say the wrong thing?

You did totally fine. It's totally normal to feel worried about what you say, especially if you don't meet that specific situation much. You did great, and next time you'll know even more!

    Waitlisted

Hey guys, I know I haven't been around for awhile. I feel pretty ashamed. I applied to a new LPN -> RN program for September 2023, but instead of it I got waitlisted for September 2024. While I'm happy I got in, I'm sad I might have to wait a...
  11. Funny enough, I've already been on clonidine since before I was even put on an ADHD med. I take it for anxiety, I guess it has two uses! I will ask about Strattera though. Thank you!

LPN in NY and looking to relocate to Tennessee

No advice here, but I was thinking of doing the same, Moving from Massachusetts to New Hampshire or Maine! I'm glad to see that I can get the license before moving and being able to have a job before moving. Thank you!!
  13. I understand where you're coming from the ADHD part...I was recently diagnosed in about last October and am on bupropion (Since I can't take Adderall due to my health problems) and I still have problems at work from it, along with my other mental hea...

Do you burp IV bag prior to putting pressure on it?

I've never heard of putting a pressure bag on. What do you mean? I'm still a newbie with IVs, though.

New York to Drop Masks in Hospital Facilities

I knew I heard this coming soon. I hope it passes in Massachusetts soon. I'm over it tbh. I know they helped for a time, but I think we're past that point now. Plus if we need to put them back on eventually that's okay.

    New LVN emergency situations

I've dealt with this in my LTC. One time I had a patient have only respirations, and only responded to sternum rub. She slowly went down in her vital signs about a half hour to an hour before. She is/was a DNR/DNI, yet I called the family becaus...

    Working during school?

I suppose you guys are right. I'll most likely just go per diem (again) and focus on school. Thank you all for your honest input. I have a lot to learn and I need to start taking things more seriously.

    Working during school?

I've been contemplating working full time in the nursing home (3 12s) when and if I get back into this new school for May-May. I've been wanting to move out with my boyfriend and out of my parents' house, and this would be the only way we could stay ...

When You Receive a Warning at Work

I got my first verbal warning a few weeks ago. I saw why I was in the wrong, and it helped me learn. Sometimes we need that in both nursing and our lives. I told my manager "It's a learning experience!" and that's what she says now when things like t...

    Witnessed Patient Abuse

This is disgusting. I'm so sorry your brother went through this. This nurse and charge nurse acted so unprofessionally and it should be reported ASAP. I agree with Davey (as usual!), record the time, date and bring it to grievance officer (or so...

Will it go on my license?

I found out today that I got a verbal warning because I didn’t know I had to report a skin tear. I only thought that they were falls. My work agreed that it was stupid but they only gave me a verbal warning because the state got involved. Will this e...

Will it go on my license?

I'm not sure about the discipline page. However, my facility told me they will not take any action and will more so just brush off the whole thing. They told me they only took action because the state got involved. Otherwise, it would have just been ...

Wisconsin Nurse Amputated Man's Foot Without Orders

How do you even manage to do that?!
  24. Love this article and topic! Back at my old job in the doctor's office, I had a non-binary patient. They were so shocked (because they were a new patient) that I asked their preferred gender/etc, due to being unsure if it was in the computer cor...
  25. I know, weird title. My CNA came to me last night saying that my patient was on the floor. I went in with the vital tower and took her vitals, everything was good. No outstanding injuries per the patient. We got her up and back to bed, bathed, c...
