  1. Anyone familiar with Florida Hospital College?

Hi, happy to answer your questions No clinicals were necessary in this program, as we are all RNs already. There was some 'service hours' in the courses, but those were fulfilled by the course requirements such as in the population focused community...
  2. Anyone familiar with Florida Hospital College?

I enjoyed this program...but as with courses taken online, there are a ton of papers to write!!! It was a challenging program, but definitely do-able, and it is accredited and the tuition is definitely more affordable than other programs. I would re...
  3. Anyone familiar with Florida Hospital College?

How funny that this thread is finally answered!!! I have since gone on to this program and graduated in April. I would recommend this program, and would be happy to answer any questions....
  4. Microbiology - Fall 2005

We got our grades from the first test back last night. The entire class got C or D. No A or B or F. That is kind of weird... The professor gave us a long chat about how to get organized, and to follow her outline to only study what she has mention...
  5. Microbiology - Fall 2005

I was happy to see I got a 90 on my lab quiz last week, but this week we had a lab practical exam. While I could identify all the microorganisms, I messed up on kingdom/phyllum. I think I switched all those answers So much for that easy A+
  6. Microbiology - Fall 2005

We had to buy a black plastic apron for the lab. I think it was $6. It doesn't even cover too well (so don't wear anything nice to lab!) The instructor had the gloves in the lab. I really like my instructor, he is very funny and keeps it interesti...
  7. Protonix IVP

I never heard of giving it IVP either. We always give it as a mini, sent up premixed by pharmacy. This is from the FDA website: DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION PROTONIX I.V. for Injection admixtures should be administered intravenously through a dedicat...
  8. How many questions did you take? Pass/fail?

75/passed Congrats to all you new nurses!
  9. what method most used

You gotta learn them all, however, with the new focus on medication safety, they are trying to make things more consistent. There is now a list of unapproved abbreviations - no more using cc, it's ml only. I think there is something in the plan abou...
  10. Microbiology - Fall 2005

Hi glimmer, I will be taking this class at Hudson Valley - I am in the Capital District... Lake Placid is so beautiful - but far too COLD for me...
  11. Microbiology - Fall 2005

I am also taking it this fall, it is the prerequisite to officially matriculate into my RN to BSN program. How I have wished over the years that I had taken it as part of my ADN, but it wasn't required and I took gerontology courses instead. MISTAKE...
  12. How much did it cost for your ADN?

I went to a small private college for my ADN. I think it was about 3500 per semester, x 5 semesters = $17,500 plus books and fees. It was about double the cost of the community college here, but no waiting list, and luckily I qualified for some fin...
  13. Why Are 12 hour shifts the standard?

Our unit originally went to 12s because they could never fill the evening shift. So they just deleted that shift entirely! Now the only option is to work 12s.
  14. Baby Powder at your hospital...

Back when I worked LTC, they stopped stocking baby powder because it had set off the fire alarm system. EMS, police, fire departments all responded to every alarm triggered. Yep, it was the powder.
  15. Staffing coordinator way out of line

Apparently she doesn't have any idea what we do, if she would walk over fire for $38 an hour! You could suggest she go back to school... I would just let it go, especially if she is a person responsible for booking your shifts! I agree with trauma ...
  16. Wearing scrubs in public...

I don't see how you made that jump with the logic... Handwashing/ alcohol hand gel is the number one way to reduce the spread of infection. Look at the CDC recommendations. I don't think anyone here has alluded not to wash hands, that's not what we...

  19. because at the end of a 12 hour day of being overworked, understaffed, disrespected and desperately hungry since I worked through lunch (overdue to get a bathroom break also) I should be regarded with caution!
  20. Wearing scrubs in public...

Don't you think it's inflammatory though to say anyone in scrubs should be regarded with caution?
  21. Wearing scrubs in public...

I am going to email parade magazine I think, since this is just another thing that chips away at our image.
  22. Some of the managers walked around tonight handing out ice cream. You had a choice between nutty buddy, fudgicle, or ice cream sandwich. YIPPEE!
  23. The safest way out is to make your emergency plan and go when you are ready. Don't say a word about any plans you are making, don't say anything to the kids. You can contact the local domestic violence support, whether its a shelter, or a community...
  24. Pediatric pain management

We are a large teaching hospital. We usually have orders for Morphine IV, Tylenol 3 or regular Tylenol for pain post-op. I can't even remember the last time I gave an IM to a peds patient. Also, I haven't seen any orders for Demerol in years. If ...
  25. double-checking insulin with cokworker

Back when I worked in LTC, it was the policy NOT EVER to mix insulins in the same syringe. Many residents did in fact get stuck twice. I don't know why this was the official policy, but as you know, behind every rule is a crazy story. Such as, on...
