  1. Hacks for Eczema, Bug Bites, Etc.

Ice works on my students with eczema! It calms it enough that they don't focus on the itching constantly. May also work for bug bites.
  2. Telehealth Visits in School Nurse Office

They're going to be doing swabs as well sometime this year. So that might cut down some of that.
  3. Telehealth Visits in School Nurse Office

Have any of you implemented Telehealth doctor visits in your schools? If so, how is it going?
  4. Telehealth Visits in School Nurse Office

If I happen to get more details I will certainly let you all know. I don't have a problem facilitating the visits either. My questions are...do I have to chart in school system AND in another program for the doctor visit? I do know the school is buil...
  5. Telehealth Visits in School Nurse Office

It is being implemented in some schools here, so I was curious. I recently had an interview with a high school closer to where I live who said they are implementing them in the next few weeks!! Was just hoping to hear of some experiences from other n...
  6. Missouri School Nurses - BinaxNOW Rapid Testing

Our district nurse discussed it with our central office recently. I haven't heard back just yet but it seemed like the nurses weren't totally on board.
  7. Missouri School Nurses - BinaxNOW Rapid Testing

Please let us know and keep us updated on how it's going. I hear it's coming down the pipe here in North Texas...
  8. 2020 small achievements

I held one of our blood drives yesterday (2 yearly), and I actually got to sit out there and man it! I see 5-15 kids a day now instead of 35-50. I get to eat my lunch, and I get to pump when I need to. I got rid of my clothes closet this yea...
  9. Frequent Flyers

I'm guessing you didn't see where it was encouraged to bring the parents, school administration, and counselors in on the issue to discuss possible bigger problems. If all you got out of this thread was school nurses dismissing student problems, mayb...
  10. Frequent Flyers

This to a "T"!! After I notice a pattern, I say "does your mom know you've been to see me 18 times this month/week/etc? Let's call your parents right now because maybe something bigger is going on that they need to take you to the doctor for." A...
  11. CDC Has Changed the "Close Contact" Definition

The CDC says this: "Because the general public has not received training on proper selection and use of respiratory PPE, such as an N95, the determination of close contact should generally be made irrespective of whether the contact was wearing...
  12. What do you do when a kid refuses to wear a mask?

Our admin has been handling the kids who won't wear them or don't wear them properly. This is a disciplinary issue for sure.
  13. That's So Fetch! (Pink Wednesdays)

I'm not wearing pink, but I have a tie dye shirt on that kinda has some pinkish shades? IDK, maybe I'm not cool anyway since I'm wearing TIE DYE for crying out loud. Freaks and Geeks, here I come.
  14. Just me, or everyone...?

I always kind of laugh/cringe at the birthday immunizations as well. Haha, I thought it was just me. And yes, I always see my son's birthdates for shots!
  15. Exclusion Guidelines- AHHH

Are your schools allowing alternative diagnosis for return from a doctor? Doctors in my area are refusing tests and sending kids back to school with run of the mill issues. Our area's health department says they can return with alternative dx but sai...
  16. PPE concerns as we return

I have the same concerns. I would like a gown, N95, and face shield as well. But that's a lot of money when all is said and done. Our school asked us how many gloves we foresee using a week and mentioned trying to find masks, but I just don't see it ...
  17. Fast Acting Glucose in Classrooms

I asked my district nurse if we have a policy for classrooms to have any fast acting glucose in the classrooms in case of a lockdown. I was basically told the students need to keep it on them by this point (HS). I'm not particularly happy with that a...
  18. Spring Break

Why are you there so much longer? We get out the same day as the kids. We come back a week and a half before though. I don't know what I would do for 8 hours a day for more than 2 additional weeks. Enjoy your Spring break!
  19. Lord- Coronavirus drama

You know how hard it is to leave a note when you realize something's empty!
  20. Another face mask post

I think if they are going to allow it, then they probably need to distribute some information to dispel the fear it is undoubtedly causing. But I agree, I would call parents and educate them. Masks are only good for a few hours, then the moisture and...
  21. Asthma, no inhaler, WWYD?

    AYE YAY YAY!
  22. Face masks

Our district just OK'd students using masks after a big meeting that none of the nurse's were a part of. ?
