    Covid Vaccine

More than 80% of COVID-19 deaths occur in people over age 65, and more than 95% of COVID-19 deaths occur in people older than 45. #scienceisreal
  2. Hello all, I will be a new FNP very soon! I graduate in April 2021. As an FNP, I want to have a nice schedule (day shift) and enjoy what I do! What are some of the best specialties to get into that provide an excellent work/life balance? I am considering dermatology, which would be M-F in a clinic. I also would be interested in Urgent Care because the hours are usually 3x12s from 8am to 8pm. I am also interested in geriatrics/palliative/hospice ... but I am not sure what those hours would look like. I am even interested in Gero-Psych, but I believe I would need to have my PMHNP. Thank you for any advice!

Should I leave a nice unit for a day shift job?

I would take the day shift job. Personally, night shift is so hard on my body - that a day shift job, even if I liked it somewhat less, would be worth it to me. Schedule is hugely important to me!

How to Answer a Patient Who Asks: "Does God Exist?"

It is so lovely that your patient asked you this! You could also take the opportunity to refer the patient to a hospital chaplain. I don't believe God can be "proven" one way or the other - so don't worry about "proving" your belief. You could simply say, "Yes, I believe God exists." And maybe take some time to listen. Create a space for sharing and understanding the patients fears. It sounds like a cry for comfort and hope.

Meltdown at Work and Feel like a Failure

Such a compassionate response from Nurse Beth. And sending a big hug to Meltdown. Meltdown, take some time to do some self care. You did not fail! You had a bad day (or two). Big deal! I have face-planted very publicly many times (and I imagine it will happen again). Hang in there, Meltdown!
