  1. School gets out at 330. Yesterday I had 24 kids sent to my office after 3. We have to document quite a bit about every student that comes in. Every single one was headache/stomachache. Today...19 after 3. Ok if someone has some bleeding mess, loses c...
  2. Holy pay cut shock!

I'm sure this has been up here before...but I've never browsed the school nurses as I recently became one. I'm an LPN of 2 Year's, prior medic, and medical assistant. My job I just left at a rehabilitation hospital paid 28/hr...when they offered me ...
  3. C'Mon Now!

I had to stop buying good snacks out of pocket. Way too many repeat visitors
  4. Intrusive application questions!

I was recently completing my hiring paperwork for a pediatric home health company, and I came upon a "health history" page. It asked me to list every surgery I've ever had, the date, and why. It then asked me to list any new or chronic health conditi...
  5. Why do some nurses hate it in others pump at work?

Come on, don't be THAT coworker lol
  6. Why do some nurses hate it in others pump at work?

Eeek...that comment reeks of unpleasant or frankly scary to work with!!lol Discrimination?!? Ah, stop it! That's just too much!
  7. Why do some nurses hate it in others pump at work?

Wow...there must have been a very large amount of lactating women in one place to change a break room to a lactation room...that's pretty intense!!
  8. Holy pay cut shock!

Cooll! Thanks for the info! I'm feeling out this area of nursing and love the input from those who are more well versed than I!
  9. Holy pay cut shock!

Indeed, I have one friend who is a school nurse who doesn't get paid for breaks in her district. In mine though, we are structured exactly the same as teachers so there's about 4 months you are paid for that you don't get up and go to work so that in...
  10. Intrusive application questions!

Well good thing they didn't want to measure my waist...I'd have been disqualified right there! nteresting experience ! We already know we're held to higher standards than other fields. I wonder where it's appropriate to draw the line? I have though ...
  11. Want to Change Locked Unit. What Do I Say?

Yes! I have seen so many nurses get fired with good intentions but being perceived as trouble. I've done it myself. Sent a text to the DON about a serious neglect concern and she forwarded my text to all of the other administrators and said this ones...
  12. Insubordination

Doesn't mean you're covering your a**from being fired...but you're probably better off for not being there then. I worked in a "post acute" (where the acuity was ridiculous for the setting) and in one shift was given 67 patients with 3 sets of keys f...
  13. Crushing Oral Medications...New Regulation

I will continue until one of them is standing next to me took the words right out of my mouth...or off my keyboard anyway...
  14. Influenza-like illness

We have a list of reportable illnesses for the cdc and a form that goes along with it. Usually it's the diagnosing practitioners office or hospital that submits the paperwork then the cdc follows up with the pt/family
  15. Intrusive application questions!

Yes your work history is open season. That wasn't what I considered intrusive. I just never have seen a full sheet that had to be sent back before employment can start. I think every job I've had has required contacting former employers. Just found t...
  16. Intrusive application questions!

That's what I wondered! Was this in the 50's? Those are all on the list of things we're expressly prohibited from asking!
  17. Intrusive application questions!

Yeah...I certainly chose to pass on them. I do believe it's standard for them to contact prior employers...having them fill out a whole survey was surprising lol. We always have the right to turn a job down, I just feel in the last handful of years e...
  18. Struggling with poor pay and a love for School Nursing

And also if you're talking about pay across different districts, some just pay more than others based on the area they're on, their rating , and how much funding they get.
  19. Struggling with poor pay and a love for School Nursing

Same where I am. Most of the school "nurses" are unlicensed ancillary staff like cna's, medical assistants, and basic emt's. So when they actually hire a nurse the pay is beyond disappointing. I just posted about this before reading yours. When I jus...
  20. Holy pay cut shock!

I was thinking that also, maybe if they can't fill the jobs, they will increase the pay. I don't think that will happen though because it's a great schedule especially for people who have 2 income households. I still actually make more than my sister...
  21. Holy pay cut shock!

Thanks for the input! Having worked some horrible hours with ridiculous patient ratios I'll absolutely agree there are a lot of things that are worth more than money! There are a lot of great benefits...I just figured some areas may pay +\- 5 dollars...
  22. Rehab Nursing advice please...not a real nurse?

"Real" nurses went to nursing school, sat for a state board exam, got a nursing license, and work in the field. That's it. If you don't like your place in life, change it..but don't let others determine your worth and value.
