  1. The plan worked so I wouldn't necessarily call or notify. I would try to keep track if there is a pattern and then I would notify parents- say if PE was before lunch and they always dropped, maybe need a snack before PE

We are talking about it, but we are thinking bus drivers may have to do it as they are the first point of contact as all our students have the ability to be bused no matter how close or far they live. We have a district PK-12 about 9500 students
  5. I think I would give it as ordered unless she is having diarrhea, etc
  6. Is it a tid order to be given as needed or no matter what? Is it a signed MD order?
  7. I make diabetic kits for all my planned teachers per the kiddos schedule, then I add PE, exploratory, some of the aides, music wing, and library. I have been doing 8 glucose tabs for fast acting, peanut butter crackers, and 1 carton of no refrigeration needed chocolate milk. Short acting, plus long acting, plus protein. For cost savings next year I will switch to packs of smarties in each bag. Our high school does not do this, but they do not see their diabetics on a routine basis, but here in MS, All their stuff is in my office and they are not allowed to carry backpacks.
  8. Our HS trip to Rome and Greece is being changed. Either all Greece or the Galapagos. No Rome
  9. I put them on speaker. No way I am letting a kids phone touch me.

Do you have OTC medication for staff? Do you give it out or let them take it? Do you have a policy on it?
  11. As long as no fever, behavior problem not medical problem!
  12. Thanks everyone! Kids is doing fine. No additional treatment needed at the hospital. I will continue to ride this happy wave ?
  13. My admin hasn't even stepped into my office today to check on anything even when I radio'd that I am calling 911.
  14. Kid chewed a pretzel that a friend gave him with peanut butter inside. After chewing, realized it and spit it out, but reaction was starting. Vitals were all normal and lungs clear. Gave Benadryl while calling parents. Started with hives around mouth. Gave Epi pen and called 911. Mom and ambulance rolled up at same time and kiddo transported. Kid learned not to eat anything from someone else.
  15. I have a student out since September from an altercation with another student causing a concussion- has been out since. Homebound tutoring only began 6 weeks ago and just got continued for an additional 6 weeks. I have so many issues with it including student not being in school but going on school trips and flying in airplanes with seemingly no issues. Our district seems to not be fighting anything mom wants due to potential lawsuit. It is crazy! No advice, sorry!

    Sounds about right.
  17. No from me! EMT is not the same as nursing!
  18. My office is very bland/beige! I have some nature/sky pictures I snapped on my phone made into 8x8 canvases that I stuck all around my office. Some pics of my kids, drawings my son did, pride flags. Otherwise beige on beige on beige
  19. Well, that depends if they have a peanut allergy or a tree nut allergy or both

Just a couple weeks ago had an afebrile middle schooler with vague stomach ache. Ate crackers and water in my office, not much better but not worse. Sent her to lunch to see if she was hungry. Returned without eating after about 15 minutes. Walked into my office and had non stop vomiting. Mom took to ER. Unable to "officially diagnose due to pain". Surgeon went in and appendix had already ruptured. Drains, IV antibiotics, the whole 9! Ugh I felt terrible...nothing I could have done different though!
  21. Nope, nope nope. I will not be behind closed doors with any student. We have aides in my district that get a diapering stipend. Those are who is responsible.
  22. I do number 2 for injection kids. Number 1 for pump kids

I am responsible for 1 middle school with 875 students. Just me, no assisstant.
  24. When I was a sub I oriented in each building for 1/2 day. When I got full time job in my building I am in now, I hadn't subbed here in over 2 years and got NO orientation. Just figured it out as I went.

My district sends a nurse if nursing judgement has to be used. So basically Diabetic and seizure kids WITH emergency medication are the only time we send a nurse. We always off for the parent to go first. Daily medication can be given by a teacher here
