I'm living about 20 minutes away from my hospital so prices aren't as expensive for more sqft. Also, I have yet to find a reputable breeder without insane prices for puppies so I haven't gotten my puppy yet. I still want to find a puppy but probably will have to wait until later in the year, which also means closer to when I plan on moving back to my hometown. Once I'm living back in my hometown, I'll have plenty more options for pet care during the day, either pet walkers (which will be less expensive in my small town vs my current city) or having my grandmother come over to my apartment/house to play with my dog and taker her to the potty. For those suggesting I shouldn't get an aussie because they are "too much work" or "need more exercise" those are precisely the reasons I want this particular breed. I want to be able to have a dog who enjoys getting outside and playing for a couple hours and who I can take with me on adventures. I enjoy going to state parks and other outdoor areas and would love to be able to share my experiences with my dog. I understand that the days I work, she may not get as much exercise as days I'm off, but that doesn't mean she won't get at least 30 minutes or so of play time everyday. I'm also choosing to not get a cat because I tend to get sick around cat litter. It messes with my asthma and gives me headaches. Therefore, a cat is not a great choice for me unless they can be an outside cat, which living in a big city isn't a great idea. At home, I had a cat who was an indoor/outdoor cat who never used a litter box because we had a wooded area in our backyard that he claimed as his own.

Go with your school policy definitely. I wore a pair of white leather Nikes for school. I now wear either my older nike running shoes I don't mind getting dirty or my pair of black converse. I'm trying to figure out if I should find a new pair of shoes, but so far my feet hurt no matter what I wear.

Hey guys. So I'm in my first year as an RN, BSN in a town five hours from home. I'm living alone for the first time ever in a good sized apartment (~800 sqft). I'm really wanting to find an Australian shepherd puppy, but I'm not sure what to do during the days when I'm at work for 12 hours. My bedroom connects to my bathroom so I've thought about providing her/him plenty of food/water and a place to potty in the bathroom with lots of toys for entertainment while I'm at work. There are no doggy day cares near my apartment that cater to the nursing schedule. Everyone opens after I leave for work and close before I'd be able to pick them up. Also living alone makes me nervous having someone have a copy of my housekeep and come in my home during the day. Does anyone have any other suggestions for what I could do? I don't want t get the puppy/dog until I have a pretty solid plan, because I know making them stay in a kennel holding their potty needs all day would be very cruel.

Is the onboarding portal giving anyone else an error message? I've been getting it for a couple days, but want to make sure I'm not the only one before emailing them.

Yes, neuro or spinal were my top choices for the adult surgical track. However, I really wanted pediatrics originally.

I also found out my placement and I'll be in the Neurology/Epilepsy unit!! I'm super excited and cannot wait!! I was getting a little nervous about everything, but being placed in neuro has eased my nerves quite a bit and honestly I cannot wait to be there now. I will definitely miss my church family from my hometown so I don't think I'll wind up staying at Vanderbilt for longer than 2 years, but I'm sure the entire experience will take my nursing career to the next level.

The links for direct deposit setup and parking are either not working or telling me access is denied. I also can't access the on boarding portal anymore for some reason.

Is anyone's links for all the on boarding stuff not working or showing that access is denied for some things?

If you have a multistage license, you should be able to practice in TN for 90 days and just have to fill out the primary residence form. Call the TN BON tomorrow and they should be able to direct you in exactly what you need to do.

I originally thought I was because my license is in Georgia, which is in the enhanced Nurse License Compact, but because my primary address is in Alabama my license is single state only. However the endorsement for TN requires you to fill out their application, have your license verified, complete a citizenship form, have background check/fingerprinting done, and upload a copy of your diploma or send in a transcript and upload a signed passport picture. I was able to fill out the application and everything in one day. It took some scrambling around town, but it's definitely worth it. When I called the TN BON they said it takes about 6 weeks for everything to go through....so if you get it done quick you may be just in time for the start date

Pretty sure I want to live with someone too. Coming home to only my pets on hard days and not another person would get quite lonely after a while. I definitely would like to live close enough to walk or use public transit, but right now I don't think I can afford to live alone that close. Or at least..I don't want to pay that much to live alone that close.

The NCLEX is a national test so it does not matter what state you take it in. You can also apply to any state board of nursing. Just contact that board of nursing first to make sure what their procedure/policy is.

Hey everyone, New RN here who could use some advice on preparing for my first job! I graduated 2 months ago and passed my NCLEX last month. Now I have about a month and a half before I start my first job as a real live nurse! Since passing my NCLEX last month, I've not really done much studying afterwards. I've mainly been catching up on sleep, watching Netflix/Hulu, and hanging out with friends for my hometown before I move away for at least 2 years for my job, which is in a New Grad Residency Program. I feel eel like I should be doing something to prepare myself for my first job. I've bought some new scrubs that I cannot wait to wear, but I feel like I'm missing something. Should I be doing anything else to prepare for the job? Maybe I'm just still too used to the constant studying of nursing school..... any advice is welcome! :)

I got licensed in GA first and am now having to be endorsed by TN. It takes 6-8 weeks for the endorsement to be processed. You might as well go ahead and get licensed in TN if you are for sure going to work in Tennessee. It will definitely save you lots of time and lots of money.

I've started looking online right now. I'm going up there next week and sitting down with an apartment locator and will hopefully find my apartment then. Unless we get added to the "Facebook group" that is apparently happening and then I'm just going to look at different apartments and not make a full decision. I'm thinking I want to have roommates, simply because I don't want to pay tons for rent, plus utilities. Have you looked at places yet or know what you're plan is for that?

Has anyone heard anything about a timeline for when the Facebook page will be created? I was told "in October" during my interview. I'm starting in November and am kind of getting slightly antsy about where I'm going to live and whether or not I will get a roommate. If I do wind up with a roommate, I'd prefer it be with someone who is also in the residency program.

Georgia is part of the enhanced Nurse License Compact. I think I should be good for the first 90 days. I just have to figure out the process for it being endorsed by TN. I emailed them yesterday and am waiting to hear something back. Are y'all planning on living with roommates or by yourselves? I'm trying to decide what I need to do about living.

Anyone know when they are making the Facebook group? Also, does anyone starting in Nov know what we need to do if our license is in a state other than TN? I have mine currently in GA and need to transfer/get it endorsed by TNBON.

If your offer said Float pool, that may be an option for that track. I would just email Mrs. Fargo and ask just to make sure!

I don't believe the float pool was an options for the NRP. The "Tracks" they offer are basically just a group of units that are similar to each other. During orientation, we do rotate to the different to get a better idea of which unit we fit in with best and are then placed on a specific unit. I don't believe we rotate the entire time in the residency program though. I also don't think the float pool is an option for new grads in the residency program.
