Thanks for your info. I am in a rural facility where the RN is the first line for everything! We have done ferning for decades but now the lab says that only DRs and lab tech's can do ferning. I disagree and feel that a RN can do this under a comp...

I'm looking for feedback regarding whether or not RN's are regularly doing ferning to assess ruptured membranes. If yes, is it under a competency/standardized procedure? Thanks!!

I agree with the other info in the postings..but just be sure sure you check with your BRN..in California, RN's can place internal monitors as long as it is under a stadardized procedure with competency validation annually.
