Hi everyone, We should hear something soon, right?
  4. I’ve found myself in a situation where there’s no more room for advancement at my current position and my hospital is the only one in the area. My next dream job is available and they’ve reached out for an interview.... but, the commute is 1 ho...
  5. Excela Health CRNA 2022

Does anybody have any idea how many they interview?
  6. Excela Health CRNA 2022

Not yet. I’m not really crazy about interviews being spread out over so many weeks.
  7. Excela Health CRNA 2022

Yep, got the call today! They’re doing in person. I’ve heard that there is a CCRN style test in the past.
  8. Cant decide

This really depends on you and your goals. You have to do some deep introspection and decide if you think you’re mature and thick-skinned enough to be a new grad in the ICU. Being a new nurse is hard without adding the stress of ICU. Also, is the ICU...
  9. Excela Health CRNA 2022

Also applied here, submitted my app back in November, and haven’t heard anything yet!
  10. Can 3% normal saline be given peripherally and in a non ICU/ER setting?

I don’t write the policies or write orders for invasive procedures ??‍♀️
  11. Can 3% normal saline be given peripherally and in a non ICU/ER setting?

Our policy is to only run it through a midline/central line and it requires a transfer to ICU. Regardless of how fast it’s infusing, you need frequent neuro checks and frequent lab draws/monitoring.
  12. West Virginia University DNP

I see that WVU started a DNP anesthesia program that was accredited this fall. Did anybody on this site start or interview there? Looking for some insight.
  13. ECMO specialist

Hello AN, I have been an ICU nurse for 2.5 years, level 2 trauma center with mixed ICU, we take mostly MICU-type patients, open-heart surgery, lots of cardiac cases, occasional neurosurgery. My heart always has been in cardiac care, I love open heart...
  14. West Virginia University DNP

Yes! Hoping to apply there this year
  15. WVU DNP CRNA

Hello all, I’m looking for any info about West Virginia University CRNA program. I know it’s a new program and so hear they took a small class size but I could really use any kind of insight. Is anyone here in the program/applied/interviewed there?
  16. Thoughts on Charge RN

Sorry, but as a current ICU RN, I cannot imagine if our charge had never actually worked a day in the ICU. At least in my department, the charge nurse is responsible for a lot more than just staffing/assignments. They are a resource for questions/tro...
  17. Becoming a Critical Care Nurse

A lot of ICUs will offer RN jobs and some even have really nice residency programs for new grads. I would look and see if there are any postings for those positions at the hospitals around you. If not, becoming a PCT is a good way to get a foot in th...
  18. Shadowing

Hi all, I’m shadowing a CRNA for the first time tomorrow in the hospital setting. Any tips on what to expect? I’m pretty nervous!
  19. Dilute Lasix before giving IV?

Our pharmacist doesn’t have us dilute any dose less than 80mg.
  20. Waynesburg university 2nd degree nursing

I’m glad to hear that Sherry Parsons is still there, she was one of the best when I was there and played a crucial role in making me the nurse I am today! ?
  21. Waynesburg university 2nd degree nursing

Yes all classes were in person and no HESI, we did do ATI exams throughout the program though.
  22. Waynesburg university 2nd degree nursing

I would say clinicals were comparable to other programs. Most of them were in Morgantown, some were in Pittsburgh. You have an instructor on the floor with 7-8 students until your senior preceptorship. We had several students precept in ICUs and a co...
  23. WVU CRNA

Did you end up interviewing here?
  24. Just graduated from CRNA school

I’m glad to hear your ICU experience was a level 2 center. I’m 2 years in at a 21 bed ICU that is the only ICU in the area. We do open hearts, neuro, DKA, sepsis, respiratory failure, CRRT, occasionally ECMO. I’ve been hesitant about even trying to a...
  25. Pulse Checks and Epi

We follow protocol at my facility; pulse checks every 2 minutes, epi every 3. (ACLS says 3-5 min).
