I work at a small hospital so we have one prn nurse and she works about 5 days a month. She gets cancelled quite a bit. At our larger main campus hospital prn nurses get alot more hours and fewer cancellations.

I work in Endoscopy four days per week. So that leaves me with the weekend and one day per week to work on the med/surg floor that I previously worked on. They are always short so I'm never cancelled. I guess the key is to find somewhere that really needs you.

It depends on the facility. At most, the PRN staff are the first to get cancelled. In most facilities, PRN is not a guaranteed shift.

Hello!

Where I work, per diem self-schedules and mgt. can't change the days. They are the first to be called-off (doesn't happen too often). Also, per diem RNs make $5.00/hr more than regular staff.
