Hi,
I need your help! I'm changing careers, I have a bs degree and wanted to change and become an RN nurse, i can't go for an accelerated nursing program because I have two toddlers and one of them requires special care. I finished the majority of the pre req courses that most colleges ask for at LaGuardia community college with a GPA of 3.75, I have applied to several colleges and got accepted to Adelphi BS nursing program, and if I apply to LaGuardia community college, I will get accepted as well. My question is, is it dump to go for a private college? Knowing that I might not get any finicial aid or grants, and would have to ask for a loan?
LaGuardia community college Cuny, I have paid everything out of pocket and didn't have any problem doing so because of the low tuition costs. I don't have any experience with private colleges. I will apriciate any advice. And advices from students that have attended Adelphi and would like to share their college experience and how they managed to pay for their tuition.
Thank you so much.

I'd choose public school.

A diploma is a diploma. If you pass the nclex it doesn't matter where you attended school.
I heard that hospitals are not hiring RN with just a diploma, so I have to transfer to a college that offers BS after obtaining a diploma. Adelphi private college would admit me on the fall semester in September, but LaGuardia community college I have to wait until March. I know there is not much wait between these two colleges, the only thing that I like about Adelphi is that my commute is only 14 minutes comparing to LaGuardia is 45 minutes, I don't know if that matters much but it's a little help considering my two little ones. I'm very confused. But I really apriciate your replying to me and help.

If you go the community college route, it'll be cheaper. Many hospitals are moving to hiring primarily or only BSNs (research your area to figure out if this is true where you are). However, there are plenty of nursing jobs that don't require a BSN. (Again, this varies by location, so do your research).
Once you have your ADN and nursing license, you can enroll in a number of RN-to-BSN programs. These programs are traditional classroom courses, online only, or a hybrid of the two.
Before you make any hard decisions, you should see how/if the private school credits transfer, in the event that you want to continue your education later.

What is the advantage of going private ?
I'd go to the low cost community college..
Btw I went to a hospital diploma program. We had virtually 100% job placement after graduation. So it very much depends on your local area and market.
The advantage based on what I was told by adeliphi college, that I'll finish and get a bs degree in two years only, they said since I have finished all the pre reqs ,which is too good to be true, I think they say that to every student. The commute is less then 16min and parking is available. Other then that, no other advantage.

A lot of employers do not agree with that sentiment.
A lot of them don't care. I've worked for mayo clinic who was concerned with the GPA and if you passed or not. They're respectable. Check with the employer you wish to work for. Once you get that first year under your belt you can work just about anywhere if you have references.
