I have a major issue. I applied for Finacial aid and only received 9,500 and recieved 9,500 in scholarships from the school, but I need 12,960 dollars to cover the cost of tuition. I applied for sallie mae and got approved without a co signer but with a very very high interest rate,(almost 13%) I most likely will not accept the loan. I applied for a loan at wells fargo and needed a co signer, my husband reluctantly co signed BUT I now need I need a joint co signer, which I do not have. I start school in Aug and I am freaking out about not being able to pay for the rest of the tuition. Does anybody know how many times you can apply for a loan without affecting your credit score. My husband will not be co signing for anymore of the loans because he is afraid it will effect his score. Also, does anybody know where you can get a loan other then sallie mae without a co-signer?
Thank you in advance!! :)
It is a horrible financial move.
I know you are excited and ready to roll, but this debt will be equal to a house payment!
You are not that old yet. Find a BSN program that is more reasonable. In the interim work and save some money.
When you are just thinking about the debt it seems like no big deal, but let me tell you that it is. It follows you around like an anchor. There is no getting out of it. So many younger people cannot buy homes because of their school debt. It is just really, really sad.
I know you will not want to hear this advice, but I really am trying to help you not make a mistake you will pay for over the next 20 years. A little school debt is no big deal. The amount you are talking abut is a big deal. Especially if you have not paid off previous school loan debt.
I wish you only the best no matter what you end up doing.
I thought I would say that I'll have much more than that amount of debt when I'm done and while I am worried about it, it is the best decision for me. I am starting on the path to become a nurse practitioner and looked at many factors for the decision. While it is certainly not ideal to have a lot of student loan debt, the cost of higher education these days makes it almost impossible to avoid for someone in my (and it sounds like your) shoes. Good luck!
I don't even think that regular BSN programs are that expensive. I just checked my alma mater and for one semester it's 8,890.00. According to what you need to come up with, it's way cheaper than whatever private education you are obviously getting. I agree with previous posters: Take a step back, work for a year, and apply to an ADN or BSN program at a state institution or a community college.
At the very least, tell us the name of the college you are going to attend. I'm a little worried for you.
I understand completely! I am at a private college and each semester costs $13,500. I usually get about $12,000 from my Financial Aid and then I just pay as I can throughout the semester.
It is outrageously priced, but I am at a good school and I will have my BSN when I graduate. As soon as I get a job, I plan to live just as frugally as I am now (as a poor college student) for at least 2 years so that I can hopefully pay all my debt off and be done!
I have heard from a lot of people to never take private student loans out unless you have NO other options!
Best of Luck!!
My program is over $50K. It's an entry-level master's program. So to me, it's not that much and I would go. I would be worried that I got into this program, but I might not get into another one right away. Nurses make a decent salary. If you live cheaply once you graduate, you could probably pay it off quickly. That's what I plan to do. You have to do what is right for you. To me it isn't all that outlandish though.
Yea I would go too. I'll be about 25-30k in debt when I graduate. ..it will be a hefty loan payment but doable for me since I can live cheaply for some years. It's all a personal decision. FYI my tuition for 1 year ABSN is 23k + living expenses since I can't work in the program. Good luck in your decision. How much is your total tuition, 32k?

Now I am having second thoughts after reading this forum. Should I really be going to this school? It just seems nuts not to go, I have been in school for yyyeaaarrss, with my goal to get into nursing school. I have applied over the years and havent gotten into a program. I feel like this is my time! I just cant justify throwing this opportunity away. I have shopped around and did my research and have applied to other nursing programs, and was only accepted into this program. I have a friend who just graduated and has had previous loans as well. I just feel like people have student loans, it is what it is? I dunno. I am so stressed about this whole thing.
