private duty nursing overseas surgical procedures

Published

I was wondering if anyone knows of an agency or how to get into doing private duty nursing with patients seeking surgery outside the USA. After taking a cruise focused on the touring industry, I found that there are many individuals seeking a registered nurse to go with them as they travel to other countries for major surgical procedures. Has anyone done this type of nursing? As long as I am not involved in the hospital care and am there as a caregiver while oversees, what liability would I be putting my license in? As far as I know, these are private payors and do not involve insurance of any sort.

I was once associated with someone who did this type of arrangement. You don't want to do it. Just because they go out of the country does not mean there won't be complications on either side of the border. The patient or the family will then have the same interest in blaming you and taking action against you as they would if everything had occurred here. I was even present when this person was on the phone with one of these mishap cases. I wouldn't recommend it.

This sounds really interesting to me. I love my Private Duty Nursing Job in Wisconsin. However, my fiance is from India but is currently living in in London completing his master's degree (MBA). I wold love to do travel nursing in the UK to be with him but I only have an ADN degree and the travel agencies i ahve contacted will only accept BSN-educated RNs because that is the equivalent to the UK RN education.

If anyone knows how to go into PDN in the UK, please share! I miss my man....

To work as a RN in the UK even private you have to register with the NMC (as far as I am aware)

you are correct in that to work as an rn in the uk you must register with nmc.

Something like this? Need HomeCare After Surgery Abroad?

If you would be a caregiver, not a nurse, would you still need to register? I would understand that people may like to have an American RN with them that would not be an RN overseas, but simply a caregiver that would look out for the patients interests.
