Ok So Here Is My Story...i Just Graduated Nursing School. I Passed With A B Average. My Overall Gpa Is Well Over A 3.0, I Did Very Well And Have Recived Recommendation Letters From All My Instructors, My Director, My Preceptor And Even One Of My Childhood Friend Who Is Now An Rn. I Am In The Process Of Volunteering At A Crisis Center And Have Volunteered At A Hospital Last Year.
Anyways..when I Was Younger I Was Arrested 3 Times. This Was When I Was 19 And 21. I Am Now 27 And Made It Through The Nursing Program. I Made A Complete Change In My Life And Have Been In College Ever Since. My Record On Livescan Shows Petty Theft, Recieving Stolen Property, Second Degree Burglary, Embezzelment And Probation Violation. Please Keep In Mind I Was Only Convicted For The Recieving Stolen Property And That Conviction Has Been Expunged.
Well I Am In The Process Of Writing My Letter For My Charges To The Brn And I Am Very Worried If They Will Or Won't Let Me Take The Nclex. I Worked Very Hard In Nursing School And Am Ashamed Of What I Have Done In The Past. I Want To Know If There Is Anyone Out There Who Has Previous Charges Or Convictions That Has Had The Chance To Take The Nclex. I Know It Is Done On A Case By Case Basis. But I Want To Know If Their Is Hope For Me. I Dont' Want To Feel Like I've Worked Hard In Nursing School For Nothing, Because If I Dont Get To Take It I Wont Know What To Do. Please Advise Your Fellow And Hopefully Future Nurse! Any Information Would Help.
any advice please!! or let me know if that sounds that bad...

Hello, hopeful22,
As you said, it is done on a case-to-case basis. I'm certain many have been in your shoes and successfully obtained licensure. Just be honest. Your best bet.
Good luck.

Please use "search" and review the several thousand threads on this topic.
The answer is virtually the same in all cases. The BON of the state in which you wish to be licensed, reviews ALL CASES on a CASE BY CASE basis. Thus what occurred in one case similar, will not be the same verdict as in others.
You need to contact the BON about this.
i just wanted to know if my convictions sounded really bad. thanks for some respnses back though..and i have contacted the brn thanks...

does anyone know if they check juvenile records also. I have mine sealed and did my own livescan from my local police department and my juve record didn't show up. But I've found on one of the forums that their checks include from FBI..is that true. cuz then i might be in deeper with my record because I have 6 more charges, but they were from juvenile as I have stated. WOuld I have to put each and every one on my letter also?

I just wanted to say, cause I posted in another thread you had, that you spelled things out fairly clearly here and I wish you luck.

THe other thread was out of my confusion and frustration of having to worry and think about how my actions are haunting me presently. It's true about the numerous posts on here for having to deal with a criminal record. I have yet to find out which one of those post nursing students/pre nclex takers were really able to sit and take the boards because most never reply back after the fact.

I Had A Juvenile Record Myself And I Got It Sealed When I Turned 18 And When I Went Had My Livescan And Background Check Done For My Lvn Course, None Of That Info. Showed Up. So If You Say That Your Juvenile Record Is Sealed U Dont Need To Worry About The Boards Knowing About Your Juvenile History. Anything That Has Been Sealed Or Expunged Shouldn't Show Up As Anything Except "sealed Or Expunged".
two questions we seem to be encountering more and more often have to do with the effects of a criminal history on nursing licensure:
these are questions that can not be answered by the membership of allnurses. the only reliable source of information is your state board of nursing.
