does having a previous degree make a difference in salary?

Specializes in Critical Care, ED, Cath lab, CTPAC,Trauma.

No....you will be a new grad and be paid as a new grad. Nursing doesn't take degrees into consideration. They barely pay a differential for ADN/BSN if you are both bedside nurses. Most of differential is $.50 to $1.00 for BSN over ADN and the is usually AFTER the first year.

In this current job market however the BSN is usually the preferred hire in many areas of the country.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Rehab.

Nope.

And in case you were wondering...BS+ADN does not equal BSN. Took me a looooong time to figure that out.

Specializes in Pedi.

No. Your previous degree has nothing to do with being a nurse. You will be a new grad nurse when you finish school and paid as such just as if I left nursing and went back to school for finance, I wouldn't be compensated for my experience as a nurse when I obtained my first finance job.

Specializes in ICU.

No. None of the hospitals I worked at ever paid for a prior degree. It was usually simply based on the number of years experience, and your yearly evaluations. Some places will pay about 50 cents/hour for a certification, but will limit that to 2 certifications.

Specializes in ICU, CM, Geriatrics, Management.

Yes. All depends your employer's needs, your work background, experience, the position, facility and your boss... and other personal factors.

Good luck!

Not for me. Maybe if I had a different one it might but the only difference was the BSN according to HR
