prerequisites load too big?

Published

Hello, I'd love some opinions on the prerequisite load I'm planing to take on in the spring. I'm a sahm to a 22 month old and a 5 month old and I am planning to start pre/co-requisites in January. Do you think this is too much to do in 1 semester?

Anatomy and Physiology 1 (lecture)-online

Anatomy and Physiology 1 (lab)-on campus

Chemistry-on campus

Human Growth and Development-online

Intro to Sociology-12 week course-online

College composition-express b term, 8 weeks-online

I am fairly confident I can complete these classes successfully with hard work and determination, but I think it is worth it!

Any opinions/advice is very much appreciated!! Thanks in advance! :)

what school are u going to?

PBCC...I'm shooting for the lake worth campus. Your going for the belle glade campus, right? (I just read a thread you posted in) Where exactly is the belle glade campus? Good luck to you with getting accepted for Spring 09'!!

Hello. I attend PBCC and am currently awaiting word on whether or not I got in the RN program starting in Spring 2009.

That's a pretty heavy load. I decided to go in to nursing soon after my son was born. I do work, but weeknights. My husband and I did not put my son in daycare until very recently. I took all the classes I could online and took classes on Saturdays.

Here I am, waiting to hear if I got in or not. It's been a long road but I didn't have a choice. You have the opportunity to take several classes at once. I think you could do it but I think it's going to take up lots and lots of your time.

My son is 2 now. I go to class when he is in school and I also have a couple online classes which I work on while he's at school. I can't get anything done while he is around. Since I work weeknights, doing homework after my husband gets home is not an option.

If you need advice concerning specific classes I'd be happy to help you. For sure take Allen for microbiology online.

If you want it bad enough, you'll find a way to make things work. Whether you do homework on the weekends, when your kids are napping, when everyone goes to bed, you'll figure it out.

Also, make sure you have a decent GPA, at least a 2.5 when you apply to the program. This will improve your points. Remember that also before you decide on your course load. You want to do the best you can in your classes.

Good luck!!

Belle glade is way west!!! Lake Worth very competitive. A&P online try ramsammy or I am not 100% sure silvio might be having an online class next semester, Lab if you can get to pbg campus michael patten easy going, enc1101, I took on line 2, teach was abandoza, david something like that , he was good, alot of papers obviously. Human growth online kellie bassal was pretty good but took a while 2 respond 2 emails. Go to rate my professor for chemistry or sociology teachers, I dont have any suggestions. You can also go the teachers websites to see what they require of you, so you don't overload yourself, I also have a 3 year old and an 8 month old. It is doable but alot of dedication on your part for the online classes!! hope this helps

I agree allen is great!!!! are u taking her now?

Thank you "Jentrbo" & "mystical0217"!

I'm taking on such a heavy load in hopes to make the October 1st (2009), deadline to enter the nursing program in January 2010. In addition to the spring I'm going to do a pretty good sized load over the summer. I'm planning to take A&P 2 and Microbiology, along with 1 or 2 classes of the other co-requisites. I know it's going to be a lot of hard work but I think it''ll be well worth it. I have a great support system and a lot of determination so I know I can do it. I am hoping with completion of the spring and summer terms to apply for spring 2010 with about 26 points. From what I've been told this passed fall (lake worth's campus), students needed about 25.5 points to be excepted, and that the spring is usually a couple points less.

I'm going to give it my all! Best of luck to the both of you with your acceptance! Please keep me updated. :)

Below are the teachers I'm planning to take in the spring...Please let me know any input you have...

Anatomy 1 (lecture)-online-Roger Ramsammy

Anatomy 1 (lab)-campus-?

Chemistry-campus-Anne Marie Francis

DEP2004-online-Anne Marie Rakip

Sociology-online-Sandra Richmond

Composition-online-John Ribar

Any suggestions for A&P lab? Anyone on my current list you think I should remove?

Yes I am taking Allen now for micro online. I go to the Gardens campus for the lab. I have pharm online with Alexander.

I took chem with Anne Marie Francis over the summer. I ended up with an A. Chem is a difficult subject, espeically for me since I'd never had it before. (didn't take it in hs) She is a very sweet lady and gives opportunity for extra credit. She is available if you should need help. I recommend her.

I took AP2 with Lahlou but I don't think he's at PBCC anymore. It's a shame because he's an EXCELLENT professor.

I agree...go to ratemyprofessors.com and check out your potential instructors. I always post a review after I finish a course. The students reviews are pretty right on for the most part. I like kind of knowing what to expect!! :wink2:

I am hoping for the couple of points less situation as I have 24.87!!! I'm so nervous. But, if I don't get in...not the end of the world. ;)

if you want to lighten the load a bit, look into silvio for A&P, easy A, he is a good teacher, you can learn if you want 2, tests are easy though. ramsammy is great!!! I took him, but it is work. I don't know the other teachers. Please research them before you register. You are taking alot of classes, you should see what they excpect of you!!! It is not easy with kids,(but, we can do it!!!) I don't work and I still find it hard to have the time 2 study, by the end of the day when kids go 2 sleep, I want 2 also!!!

I think you'll be just fine,...the fall term for this year was supposed to be one of the highest points requirements ever. And since you're going for the spring term I think you're good to go. Good luck!
