preparing for school

Published

Hi Everyone,

I start school on January 28. I was just wondering how everyone is preparing for school. Is anybody trying to read the texts before hand? I feel like I'm just wasting this month before I start. I have read how overwhelming 1st semester can be. Any thoughts or suggestions????

I also start on the 28th what school do you attend

Hi :) I start my first semester on the 14th.

My financial aid finally came in so I bought my books today. I bought an optional Meds Math workbook and I plan to review the basic math section this weekend. We have a test to take next week and we must pass it to start the program...so right now, that is my biggest concern. I am so paranoid about not passing it, I am afraid to cut any of the seals on my books just in case I have to return them :( .

We had to buy our syllabi so I did get those today as well. I plan to follow whatever it says to read for the first week of class.

Other than tying up some loose ends,I am just going to enjoy my last week of freedom for awhile.

Congratulations everyone for getting into a program. I start on the 14th. We have orientation on the 10th. I've bought most of my books over the internet and saved over $100. I feel as if I should be doing something with this time off to prepare but not sure what, I think once class starts I am going to remember what it was I should have done and kick myself because now I wont have time to do it. Thats a good idea to have a family member attend your orientation with you to hear how difficult the next 2 years will be I think all schools should do that. Good Luck to all!:specs:

I definitely think that you should enjoy your vacation time and not worry about being ahead worry about stay at a steady caught up pace. The turtle beat that rabbit in that race remember

When you get to school take it ...

ONE DAY AT A TIME,

one quiz at a time,

one exam at a time,

one presentation at a time,

one care plan at a time,

thats my mantra and don't worry about the fact that they will all be due the same day j/k;)

But seriously if you feel you need to be doing something start reviewing it can't hurt enjoy!!!

My fave instructor said something very telling before we started.....she mentioned the fact that NS is like an apple....then she cut about 1 sliver out of it...."You've got this much left..." But you can focus on that...or the fact that after today, this 1 sliver is gone.....As of today, I have offically 1/4th of the apple left! And away we go!

ENJOY your time.....it'll be at a premium until you get done....it's a long road, but once you get done and get your license....you'll be part of the profession....

I think enjoying your break and family while you can is vital b/c once school starts there isn't as much down time.

I've taken some time out though to get familiar with the content early since it makes it easier to follow along later. I'm starting Med/Surg II and OB. All of my NS classes except Pharm are only about 8 wks long!

I don't know about anyone elses program but mine requires a math competency exam first day of clinicals each semester....so you know the vacation break is the best time to pull out that Math for Meds book and refresh, refresh, refresh.;)

Which school do you go to? I start at Macomb next week .

I have been studying my clinical calculations book for the last week, trying to figure out the conversions before I start. I figure one less thing to worry about if I can nail them now !

Hi,

I'm at WCCCD. Even though it's a two year program it is pretty accelerated. How long are your classes at Macomb?

Congrats on getting into NS! Certainly work on your conversions (ie. apothecary chart, metric/english, etc) and most definitely memorize your formulas because you'll probably be calculating flow rates. It will be a true weight off your shoulders. Good luck!
