I have just done a test and it would appear I am pregnant, any advice on what I should avoid doing at work. I work in a care home with frail elderly and dementia.
Congrats!!!! Sometimes I prefer having isolation patients because I'm gowning. Who knows what standard precaution patients have that we don't know about. I do make sure to avoid patients with communicable diseases such as mumps, shingles etc. as well as those receiving chemo or other cytotoxic drugs. I bail out when xray comes around. I don't like taking combative patients but I usually take my turn without complaint. The biggest thing is asking for help when you need it. We are always so busy that before I was pregnant I thought nothing of holding even a dead weight patient on his side with one hand while washing his back side and tucking his new sheets with the other.
Every pregnancy is unique. Just because your charge nurse ran her butt off for 41 weeks and delivered a perfectly healthy baby doesn't mean that you should feel bad when she rolls her eyes at your special requests. Do what you think is best for your baby based on what your doctor advises and how you feel.
