hello all!! the other day i called in to this home care agency to inquire about them accepting new graduates and i received an interview on the spot. I searched them on some of the different home health threads and didnt find anything recent. Does anyone work for this agency? how was the interview process? and home much is the starting pay for a RN with her BSN...btw this particular office is located in Hackensack NJ.
I tried to get a job with my agency for peds trach/vent when I had a year's experience at subacute/LTC. They sent me to a two day pediatric class (CE's awarded and free) and then told me I needed trach/vent experience before allowing me to handle babies and young children with them. They said I could only take cases with children with tube feeds. They referred me to their adult office. I took the trach/vent class, did my 30 hours training, and then was allowed to work with these clients. Fast forward 7 years and I have stayed with the adult clients because I enjoy it. Looking back, I am sure they were right to not throw me in to a ventilator infant patient at that time.
Which agency was this?
thanx for the reply...I got the job but I'm waiting to take my cpr renewal class may 5th. Have they called you back to set up the training classes?
Hi. Did you start working or take the training classes? I called this company and went in for an interview. They told me they didn't have any available cases currently and I should keep in touch with them. I haven't called them since then.

I start the training classes in June...but I find it funny how they don't have any available cases when they were hiring like crazy!!

I heard they were hiring that's why I went there!
Do you speak Spanish? I don't. I somehow got the impression that they have cases but need bilingual candidates. Am also a new grad so that limits the cases I can be assigned. Maybe I'll call them next week.
Good luck with training! Keep us posted.
Yes I received an interiview from preferred care and the questions were basic like " why home health"? They told me to give in the documents like physical , diploma , CPR card. I am just waiting to take my physical on june 19. Then I guess from there I will take classes. I am fine with everything as long as I am getting training.
I work for preffered. They have classes before they let you go on a case and they also orient u atleast 3 full days before they let you on your own, because i have vent/trach exp i passed the exam with 1 wrong so i did not have to take the classes. The DON there is very good, she cares about her nurses and is extremely helpful. They dont try to push a case on you if you dont like it or feel u cant handle it. I oriented on one particular case for a day and hated it and the office said thats fine I didnt have to go back, where as in other agencies they tried to get me to stay with a case. Preferred starts new grad LPNs at 21 an hour. But they dont offer weekend diffs. I also work for star peds and they start you at 20 but have night and weekend diffs. Star offers benefits, preferred does not. I was able to negotiate a higher rate of pay for both agencies because of my experience, dont be afraid to ask! Both ***** at Star and ***** at preferred are great and they care about their nurses!

Each branch office is a little different and has different expectations of a new grad vs experienced trach/vent PDN nurse. In my area certain agencies have a poor reputation. The same agencies have an excellent reputation in the other end of the state. Use your instinct if something seems unrealistic it probably is time to keep looking.

I heard that they offer benefits to full time nurses...do you by any chance know how much they pay their RNs?! Where were majority of your cases located?!
