I just found out I have a ICU preceptorship!!!! I'm wicked excited. I will learn sooo many useful skills. The one downfall is it is 11-7 which will be hard to deal with because I also have classes 2 days a week. ICU experience should definitely help me with getting a NICU job someday (hopefully sooner than later)
Any other seniors heard about their preceptorships???

I just found out from a friend that I have orthopedics, not sure about the scheduling yet though. I had to move mountains to get into the first precepting group because my husband is due back to Iraq in April. I'm excited also!!!!

I worked a part time night shift job as a nursing assistant when I was a nursing student. The thing to keep in mind is to try to stay on some kind of regular sleeping schedule during the days you are working. My mother taped aluminum foil over the windows of her bedroom which darkened the room so she could sleep better during the daytime. I always liked doing most of my sleeping just before going to work so that I was well rested enough to get through the night. If I had to I stayed up the night before just so I would be tired enough to be able to fall asleep the next afternoon before going to work. Because I worked Friday, Saturday and Sunday and had clinical on Monday morning and class all afternoon, I found that taking a nap during lunch break on Mondays was the best way to get through the afternoon class--otherwise I would fall asleep during the lecture. At work, the worst time is around 5am when it tends to get very quiet. Just get up and do something physical to stay awake.

I too just found out about my preceptorship, I got the hospital I wanted in CVICU. Im a little nervous, I have to do 150 hours, and I also have 18 clinicals. My schedule is crazy for the next 4 months. But Im excited. It will make the semester go by so much faster, and then May will be here and I will be graduating!!!

I was originally scheduled for cardiac ICU but was just offered a new ED preceptorship that the instructors just heard of. I decided to go with ED, I really want to know if I will like it or not. Can't wait.

That's true...I'm looking forward to our capstone, but it's not until the last 3-4 weeks of the semester so no new unit learning until April....
Yeah we have to do a little over 200 hours. I'm not lookin forward to having a crazy schedule this semester either but i do hope it goes fast. I have a feeling my night shifts are gunna run me down with classes.
