Sorry, didn't realize you were a resident alien and already had a green card. I work in financial aid at a community college and deal frequently with international students who aren't eligible for federal financial aid (which makes sense, since non-residents don't pay taxes).

Students are considered dependents by Federal Financial Aid until they're 24. You can receive aid, but unless you have a child, are married, or legally emancipated, you have to include your parents financial information when you fill out a FAFSA form.

If you're working now, but won't be able to work while attending school, you can contact FAFSA after they've notified you of how much financial aid you're eligible for and petition to have your case reassesed.

Hi I have taken all my prereqs at Cypress and am going to start the Spring semester RN program. Of course you should wait till your fees are reduced also at Cypress it is very difficult to get the prereqs necessary for the RN program. Unless you already have a few units under your belt or if you are part of the Disabled Students program and if you qualify for EOPS. The DSPS and EOPS have 1st choice of classes then its unit rank order. So my advice is to see if you qualify for the DSPS or EOPS. If not then consider schools like ELAC its in LA and I have heard you can get your Science prereqs there then you could do your math english psyc etc. at Cypress. Just want to make sure your aware that getting classes is hard because there are so many students. I agree with what someone else said meet with a counselor ASAP get a realistic idea and be aware of your options.

i work fulltime and my parents make a bunch of money and i still get grants every semester

Gizelle22, thank you for the heads up, yeah and i heard it is really tough to get in to a class nowadays, and thats why im looking for a wide variety of options on what can i do to finish as soon as possible with little or no debt at all. and FYI i dont even have 1 unit under my belt so literally ill be starting from scratch.

Hi I have taken all my prereqs at Cypress and am going to start the Spring semester RN program.

btw, i heard waitlist for the RN program at cypress could take as much as 5 years?? how long did you wait to get in??

I had zero wait! I applied in september and Im in the Spring class. Now I know thats not the norm but I got A's in all 3 of my science prereq's and had all the extras that they ask for. Examples I speak spanish and I had completed my sociology, psyc, math and english I also have work as a caregiver and qualify for financial aid. So I had the max 30 points. Thats why I got in right away. I can not stress enough how important those A's in micro, phisio and anatomy are they will make you or break you as far as getting in fast. This is because they give you the bulk of your points. If you go to a lottery school it really doesnt matter on getting in. There was a girl whos an alternate who has been waiting 3 years and she has a BA degree all because she got B's in 2 of her prereq's.

oh really?! thats amazing Congratulations!! well you deserve everything you worked for. im glad to hear that 0 wait is possible. well for me i just have to work for all the A's so i could possibly and hopefully follow your path, btw do you also need A's in the other pre-reqs such as sociology, psyc, math and english?? and i dont speak spanish but im bi-lingual cause im asian LOL and as far as working as a caregiver well i havent experienced that yet is it really necessary?? and mind if you could share a link so i could see the points or pre-reqs i need as well?? im sorry i have a lot of question i just want everything to be perfect :) and THANK YOU very much for everything :)

no problem ask away I know I did. You do not need A's in the other classes but you should try because if you are neck and neck with another student for points then they look at the Science GPA to choose and if those are = then they look at your overall GPA. i got A's in all my classes except Math I got a C, really dont like Math and it had been 17 years since High school. You dont need the work experience there are other ways to get those points. Go to Cypress college rn program page then go to rn brochure and choose selection criteria it will break down the points scale. Also go to the RN workshop it will answer all your questions.

FOUND IT!! thank you again Gizelle22 you are a life saver!! and btw how well did you score on your TEAS?? does it matter?? i mean will it matter if you are on the 90th percentile or the 80th??

Your welcome no the teas doesn't really hold serious weight you just need an overall score of 62% I got a 75% the chemistry really killed me i got 100% on the reading and 80% in math don't remember how much I got in the other 2 sections. I think it's cause we work so hard to get in they don't want to kill it with the teas. Just go for it you can do it just be fully dedicated and you will succeed!
