pre-reqs for adn program

Published

Hi guys! I'm a little bit confused about the pre requisites at my school (community college) for the ADN in Nursing. It says I need to first complete the "Basics of Nursing Assistant Training" or BNAT...just to be able to get into the Nursing program at all. It says on their website it lasts anywhere from 10-16 weeks..i was wondering if this is a requirement for all schools or just some? Any help would be appreciated. I'm planning on starting for the spring 2012 term. :)

Each program generally sets their own prerequisites. Some programs require just the typical courses. Some require an "intro to allied healthcare" course or something similar in addition to the usual prerequisite courses. Such an "intro" course is a good idea to give students from all allied healthcare fields an idea about the other providers of care and how the all fit in the grand scheme of healthcare.

I don't think it's a good thing or a bad thing. It's just another hoop to jump through, another hurdle, another screening tool.

It sounds like a CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) course. Some programs require it as a prereq and some don't. Mine does.

It does sound like a CNA course- the nice thing about it is you can work as a CNA while you get your nursing degree, to get some hospital experience.

All the public ADN programs in my state require CNA before you can apply.
