Pre req Tuition

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hello all

I am in the process of applying for my first pre req courses. I was wondering what are the tuition prices for the courses you are taking and how are you paying for them? I am married, working but I obviously have some financial responsibilities.

You will have to check with your school. I go to a local community college and my science classes are about $540. My non-science classes are about $420. That doesn't include books or anything, just tuition.

Where I did my pre-reqs, they were about $350 per class and I paid for half of it with a small student loan and my employer paid for the other half.

Unfortunately I've had to rely on credit cards to pay for my prereqs...it's not the best way, but that was the only way I could do it. Especially when it came to the summer classes...my community college makes you pay everything up front for summer classes. I signed up for Microbiology this summer and it was $725...yeah, I definitely don't have $725 just lying around. I hate how much money I've spent on these classes, but I just keep telling myself that it will all be worth it when I start my full-time Nursing program this Fall!

I am finishing my pre-reqs at the local community college. Only $79 per credit hour. Most of the classes are 4 credit hours each. I'm paying out-of-pocket using my savings. I figure...I'm investing in myself. I'm not thrilled to use up so much of my savings, but I can rebuild it once I'm working as an RN.

I am paying for my pre-reqs with a combination of savings and credit card. At my local community college, it is $100 per credit hour. So I'm paying $700 for 2 classes this summer. Watch out for the book prices though! My AP 1 book costs $300 and you have to buy it there. With all the books, I am paying almost as much for the books as the classes.

When I actually get into nursing school, I will have to take out loans. I am also married and I have 2 kids, mortgage, car etc.

At Ivy Tech, it's around $110 per credit hour. For 4 classes during a semester right now, the charges are around $1,500.00. I received a Pell Grant and Frank O'Bannon grant last semester (fall) and this semester (spring) but won't be eligible for a Frank O'Bannon grant for the next 2 semesters due to the fact that I didn't get my FAFSA completed online before 3/10/12.

Good luck!

My cc classes run $90 per credit hour but all science classes have their own lab fees, usually another $50 fee for each. Remember to try to rent books for a huge savings! I used Chegg.com for multiple semesters and saved hundreds. For example my A&P book was a $60 rental.

Tuition at my cc is $72 per credit for every class (plus lab and/or technology fees where applicable). I receive a full pell grant every school year that covers my classes and books with a good amount left over. I am assuming I will have to take out a loan for living expenses and quit my job once I start the program in January :-(

I am in the same predicament, i will be starting to take my first prereqs this fall. and the cost at our CC is around $46/unit. ive been saving for almost a year already but that money goes to my nursing program, ill be working at the same time to help pay for my prereqs classes until i get into a nursing program and quit my job(ill be using my savings to pay for these and some loans). i still live with my mother so my living expense is 70% covered. i dont have to worry about rent and other stuffs, i just have to worry about myself my classes and how am i going to pay for all of em. I hope you could find a way to make things fit on your own style. GOOD LUCK! :)
