One of my instructors, it turns out does not grade her own assignments. She has a deal with another instructor - that other instructor grades her class' assignments. So I noticed a grading error on one of my papers. This is how I found out about the other instructor grading. I asked my instructor if she would look at this paper - that there was a grading error. That is when she told me this other instructor grades all the assignments. So she said "gosh I don't know. I don't grade those. You'll have to take it to -----. She's in room --." I've tried tracking down this instructor. I'm burning up so much time trying to get a hold of her.

I've never heard of this type of arrangement. My instructor isn't just a lecturer either. She's the instructor for the class. Have you all seen this before? I find it unreasonable that my own instructor won't correct an error in grading for her own class and that I have to trapse all over trying to find this other instructor who isn't my own.

Hey Multi!

What class is this???

It's a small world isn't it Cardiac! I don't want to reveal who the instructor is because I genuinely like her. I don't want my griping to get back to her either, the internet is a small world actually!

But don't you guys think this is unreasonable? Or does this happen and I'm just unfamiliar with it?

If this is a regular class, I would talk to the Dean about it...that is what she gets paid to do. The other instructor has no idea of what she has covered in class.

That is a crying shame.

No, I was only curious as to which class, not the teacher! After spending about 10 minutes trying to find the other teacher, I would just speak with the faculty chair person or whoever heads the department. You can look up who that is online. Especially if this person is adjunct faculity.

Have you heard anything about NAU? I just looked into their program today. I sent an email to the nursing dept, let's see if I get a response...

NAU is still my plan B. I did see that their NCLEX pass rate one year was about 50%. Yikes. I think that might have been 2001. It wasn't great the other years if I remember right. Now of course that's not an issue for you, ICU-extrordonaire RN! But still, I have to admit it made me wonder about their nursing program. Ya know? All that said, I know of someone in NAU's accelerated program and she thinks NAU's nursing program is fantastic.

That's strange and I have not heard of that before. I think if that this type of arrangement goes on, YOUR instructor should do everything in his or her power to find them for you and sort it out. I would also talk to the dean about it if that doesn't work! I wonder why the instructors do this. Maybe because they want to grade the work on the content instead of placing names with the papers? I would think they would want to do that though. I know my professors like getting to know us and see who is really trying and who is making no effort at all, keeping that in mind. Who knows, but that is weird!

Whoa! 50%?!?!

Hmm, just when I decide on a program, something changes my mind...

It was five years ago. Who knows the reasons. If it was that bad the BON would have shut it down. I think you'd be fine.

I found it! Here's the scores for the nursing programs in AZ. What I said about NAU was from memory - turns out it was 65% in 2001. UGH year 2000 looks like it was an ugly year too. Who knows.

I have one class kind of like that. Our actual instructor grades the quizzes/exams and the other instructor grades all the writing stuff, discussions and essays. I thought it was weird too, but they gave us all the contact info for both teachers and they are really good about checking and responding to emails. Aside from this one class, I haven't ever had any other with this arrangement.
