So . . .is nursing your final stop?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I'm wondering what everyone's goals are. Are you just going for an RN, BSN, MS or is your ultimate goal something a little different?

Personally I want to work as an RN for a while and if I like the healthcare profession I'll be going for NP or PA degree. So nursing is just a foot in the door for me. Anyone else?

Specializes in RN-BC, CCRN, TCRN, CEN.
I'll be (all fingers crossed) finishing my BSN in the spring of '12 (dear heavens that seems far away!). It's actually quicker around here due to waiting lists and such to get my BSN instead of my ADN....

Same thing around here. Assuming I get into the BSN program the first time around, I'll also be graduating in May of 2012 (yikes!!)..

good luck to everyone and their goals!!

Well, as a late bloomer who will be 44 or 45 upon graduating with my ADN, I won't want to go back to school right away (will need to work for awhile to really tamp those principles into my head), but have toyed with the idea of BSN. Ya never know...:grad:

Specializes in Still a medic at heart but ICU, M/S, SVU.

For all of you who stop at your ADN/ASN...do not be down about it. You are still a nurse that works at the same level as the BSN nurse. You can be the nurse that makes a patient's day and will remember for the rest of their life! All nurses, regardless of degree level, are providers of care and to me, are respected the same.

Specializes in Wannabe NICU Nurse.

No, nursing is not my final stop, I hope to either begin an accelerated ADN program next fall, which I can finish in a year and then after I graduate, begin working on my BSN online for another year...

OR

Start a BSN program either next fall or spring, either way it goes I'd have my BSN in the same amount of time, I'd just be able to work sooner with my ADN.

I ABSOLUTELY want to get my master's not sure in what though. I am very interested in OB and Pediatrics, I will see after my clinical which one I do, if I prefer Pedi, I will work in the PICU and pursue my CRNA, if I prefer OB, I will pursue my CNM...we'll just have to see.... :)

I'll start with my Associates, then have a hospital pay for my BSN, if I'm so motivated, than I'll get an MSN and go for a Nurse Practitioner.

Those are my goals as well.

I just got into an accelerated ADN program for the spring, so I'm still just trying to get over my shock and excitement! I'll graduate and have my RN license by May 2010, and then I'd like to work at a hospital in some type of peds/NICU type area. After that I'll probably pursue an RN-BSN or just go straight into an RN-MSN program. It just depends on what area I decide I like the best. Good luck to everyone!

Wow! This has been a fun thread to read. I'll finish my nursing program in December 2012 (gasp! so far away!), and then I really have no clue. I wanted to go into nursing to become an NP, but the more I read about different paths, the more I change my mind! I think I have too many ideas--everything from public health to rural nurse practitioner to integrative medicine to nursing education. I'm hoping my clinicals in nursing school help me decide. But as long as I can run marathons, teach yoga and help people, I'll be happy.

So, I don't think bedside RN is my final stop, but I'm not sure. In any case, good luck everyone!

im fixin to apply to the bsn nursing program, but I plan on going back to school for P.A or maybe teach one day down the road. Idk, theres alot of oppurtunities out there for nurses, that why I like it so much.

my goal is pretty much similar to everyone else here...

first stop RN, then have a school pay for my BSN, then if im still motivated go for a MSN then ending with nurse practitioner, because thats the closest i can get to a doctor... and no i dont want to be a doctor
