Getting in with a W?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

So last semster I wanted to be a PA so i signed up to take ogro 1. After thinking about it, i decided i want to do nursing and ultimately become an NP. I know that orgo is not a prereq for many schools but would getting a W look terrible. Currently, I am a Pubic health major with a 3.3 science GPA and a 3.6 overall GPA. I have not taken a W. I could potentially get a B but most likely will be getting a C.

1 W is not a big deal. And a W is waaay better than getting a C in a class.

I agree with PartyTheNightAway. I would take a W over a C (or even perhaps a B depending on how competitive programs are where you're applying).

Best of luck!

W is still better than a WF or a failing grade

The only thing to double check is *if* a school does accept the Org Chem credit as part of their admission process *how* they interpret a W score. Many programs won't even look at it since it is a non-required course, however some do factor W's in as 0.0 scores which can affect overall GPA. Assuming a school doesn't factor W's into GPA it is better to take a W than a low score. My own experience is that a W in a non-required course wasn't factored in at all and did not prevent me from being accepted into a highly competitive program.

Save yourself the headache and aggravation of taking a class that you don't want to take or need. Don't worry about 1 W in a non pre-req. I took my first W in phil1 because the teachers was insane. Still was accepted into Nursing school. You have a good science GPA and a decent overall. You'll be a-ok... but def as above comment..check to see if W is calculated. Best of luck in everything!!!! =)
