Genetics Course

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Good Morning All,

The BSN programs I plan on applying to in the nearby future requires Genetics as one of the co-requisites. I wanted to know if anybody on here took Genetics?, If so, How was the course? Is it doable?

Thanks!! :)

I am taking genetics right now. I really enjoy the class. We are a small group and do discussion sessions 3 times a week rather than lectures. We have assigned readings and then we pull current relevant information from the news into our discussions. In addition we have to do a public service project, write a research paper and take our final.

Interesting..What school are you taking your genetics course at? The professors at my school received a poor rating on ratemyprofessors.com. I thought about just taking the course as soon as I transfer over to the 4 year.

Professionalgirl80, what school are you applying to? One of the BSN programs I applied to requires genetics also. None of the other schools I applied to require it though.

Okay never mind I am in Maryland.

On campus at a small community college on the Northwest coast :-)

I did, In my case, most of it are just theories/lectures so it's not that hard to study! I enjoyed it since there are a lot of new things to learn and it's exciting..it's not very complicated subject, a lot of new terms though, but I'm sure it will be doable for you!

Human Genetics is a really interesting class. That was the class that really opened my eyes to liking human biology:). Anyhow, it's a lot like a general Bio class, in addition to some pathology. It's quite interesting as it goes through the cell, the immune system, reproductive system, at the same time explaning what happens to these systems when they are interfered by mutation. My professor was kind of tough though (made multiple choice in multiple choice 100 question tests -_-) but that was just her way of teaching. It all varies on the professors, some will be more challenging than others. Anyhow, it really helps you recognize a lot genetic diseases and illnesses later on when you take A&P and Micro! good luck! :)

Thanks for your inputs!! :)
