Pre-Nursing Student Jobs!! Help!

Published

Hi there,

I am a pre-nursing student will about all of my pre-reqs completed. I am seeking a job in the medical field to gain experience but I do not have the Nursing Fundamentals/principles courses down that you normally take after you are into the Nursing program.

Does anyone suggest any jobs that I should look into??

Or are there simple classes that I could take to put me into a medical position before my RN????

It's not a healthcare job, but the summer before I started nursing school, I got a job as a unit aide at my local hospital. I go between different outpatient clinics and do patient flow, stock the rooms, assist with transferring and ambulation, that kind of stuff. It REALLY helped me learn about what it's like to work in a healthcare setting, how the system works, and even how to deal with agitated patients. May not be what you're looking for, but it's worth checking out :)

You could look into being a patient care associate or cna at a ltcf or a hospital. Even a non clinical job as a unit aid is good because it allows a person to get their foot in the door with that institution. As far as recommendations go, anything that will help you be exposed to the day to day realities of taking care of patients and how the nurses do their jobs is a great opportunity. I was a caretaker for a home health agency, then got a job in a hospital as a CNA after taking a CNA course (while I was talking my pre req's). All of these jobs have been beneficial in many ways.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Oncology.

I start my program in a few weeks and I have been working as an ER scribe for a few months now. I assist the ER physicians with the creation and maintenance of their charts, as well as managing lab/radiology results and discharge/admitting paperwork. It's been an awesome experience so far and I've learned a ton of pharmacology/pathophysiology so far.

Im in the same situation. I am applying

to the program in April I will have all my

pre and co reqs completed including, A&P1&2

Microbiology, English1, College Algebra,

Intro to Psychology, Sociology Advanced Human

Anatomy and other courses that are required

for a BSN program.

I even have Essentials of Nutrition

and my Ethics but because I dont have my CNA

or patient care experience I am having a hard time.

I have had so many interviews at a major

hospital in my area to many to count but

they hire more qualified candidates.

I am not giving up. I am getting my CNA

next month so I can say try that. See if

your local nursing homes offer free CNA training.

You may have to work for them after completing

training for a period of time.
