  1. Thanks so much for the support here. I know there is absolutely no time limit on education as the biological clock does eventually run out and I would love to have a few more children before my time is up. As devastating as this comes because nursing is what I long to do I vowed I would never give up. But as I have found happiness with a man who who can support through everything and since finances are not an issue I figure why not enjoy life now for at least the next year or two then return back to school.I am still young so I have plenty of time to graduate nursing school. Thanks again for all the support.
  2. This may be a bad idea, but I am soon to go visit my fiance and stay with him until he we are able to return to the states. He is traveling for work and has decided for me to travel to be there with him as he finishes the job. Well he and I are talking maybe I should take some time off from school to get adjusted to the family life. Hes making enough to support us and I am having a hard time even getting employers to hire me. I know once I decide to have kids nursing school will be challenging. At this point I am unsure of what to do but I am not giving up on my dreams. Any feedback is appreciated.
  3. Yeah sweet deal indeed. The hospital I applied to has maybe 5 or 6 PRN openings on that unit. Maybe one part time. I spoke with the nurse manager for a good amount of time about the positions and my education I told her I was a pre nursing student about to apply to the nursing program and right away she asked me to take the online assessment and send her my resume. I did both asap with a cover letter. She contacted me today to schedule an interview. This is going to be a wonderful experience I was hoping for either Med/Surg, ICU, or the ER. Telemetry would be nice as would CVICU. Any of the major units.
  4. So I recently applied for several PCA positions at a hospital and I am excited to share that I will soon have an interview for a PCA position on a Med/Surg unit for PRN. Now for some feedback I know somewhat about PRN's but I need someone who is now a PRN in any type of role whether in a nursing home, hospital, LTAC or home health that can explain how PRN schedules differ from part time full time or on call. I have heard some things about a PRN that they are not guaranteed hours they are called when other employees cannot come in and work or they are just short staffed. Ive heard hours fluctuate in a PRN role. Please some thoughts from those that have been in this situation.
  5. Hello, sorry for the delayed response but thanks so much for your reply. I have actually taken my CPR/FirstAid training course and successfully passed it. Now I am waiting for my certification. I took it online it was a free course and exam for both adult CPR and child CPR as well as First Aid. I have to say it was very interesting. They even offer a online skills test. Where you have an adult and child manequin and perform all life saving skills taught in the videos. I enjoyed it. I think this is a great field to get into. So many areas to choose from.
  6. Thanks Missingyou I will take this advice Yes we have a great unemployment office that helps people get back on track build their work skills, find jobs build professional resumes and interviewing techniques. They also offer educational assistance I believe or help people to take college courses to prepare them for the proffessional world. Thanks again Missingyou for all your help. I like the idea of the Red Cross they are one of the best for CNA and phlebotomy training. I am waiting for a class to start here they have not had any classes recently. When they do Ib will surely sign up.
  7. Oh thank you so much for the insight. I thought I may be way ahead of myself. I do tense up and get thrown off when many managers ask cetain questions. For example they ask me to describe an experience where I had to work with other employees or customers that were difficult to work with What was the situation and how did I handle the particular event at hand? This might not be an issue for me if I had more work experience. So maybe I might need to start off even lower than cna work like dietary, retail, I have been applying for cashier positions at grocery stores, pharmacies and have had luck with getting calls for interviews. So Rose_Queen thank you so much for your thoughtful words. It is hard when you have not worked in many years, yet I am only 33. I did have my first job at 15, volunteered for the local hospital then worked other jobs. I had them jobs little over a year. I worked until 2005. So yes I have a major gap in my employment not looking good on me, but being in school getting some kind of job to prove my worthiness to employers should prepare me for my future.
  8. So I am needing extreme advice. I really want my cna certification but many nursing homes that offer the class are filled up or I am doing poorly with interview skills. I have had many interviews to get in to do cna classes with nursing facilities, however they do not call me back or when I call to ask about the status of my interview they say we apologize, but we chose to go with other candidates. Now I have a story as to why these employers may be rejeccting me but I could be wrong. The next thing I was thinking was to go through my cc and pay for it I believe they offer payment plans. This is where the situation gets hard because I have to first pay a balance to the school before I can attend. Has anyone else ever been in this situation if so please offer me advice. I am really looking to be cna certified before January.
  9. Awesome Hyrule, this has mad my day. Now what I can do as far as scheduling classes. I may need to apply in the spring of 17 but at least I will have all my pre reqs and reqs out of the way when I apply and I will be able to do well on the TEAS exam. My 2016 year will be busy so again thanks Hyrule for all your help!
  10. Hyrule thanks so much for responding to my post. I really needed insight on that since I do have to take Anatomy 2. It would be great to take them at once but if not I have a plan set out if I have to separate my sciences. Also what about taking Chem101 and Anatomy 201 can those be taken together if I took Anatomy 1&2 and passed. Or would I need to take Anatomy before Chemistry? Thanks again Hyrule.
  11. I am currently a pre nursing student at the Fort Wayne campus. I have some questions. I may be a little early but I would like to get feedback from those who are about to apply. First, I am applying for next fall cohort now I have all these courses with these grades as of now. ENG111 B PSY101 B APHY101 C, let me say I first took this in 2011 at IPFW. I am hoping to retake this for an A and points. COMM101 B SOC 111 B thinking of replacing with PSY 201 to boost gpa. I have to take APHY 201 & either BIOL211 or CHEM101. What I need to know is can we take APHY201 with APHY101/102 either of them? My plan is to get most of my pre and co reqs, completed prior to entering the program. Any advice would help. Thanks!
  12. Hello I am kind of in your situation. I dont have a family although I have kids just they do not live with me I had to put nursing school off. I actually began my BSN program in 2011 just now about to aply to a program not until next fall. Yeah when I became ineligible for the BSN program it took a hard toll on my life and I am now trying to get things right again. I left my previous school on a good note in November of 2013. I accumalated 42 credits toward my degree and I had a 2.9 gpa not the best but I also needed a few other classes to work in. So I say to you while your at this age if this is truely what you want then go for it! There is no better feeling than knowing you will soon be granted that license to practice as a nurse.
  13. So here goes. I will be going back to school in January to finish the last of my pre reqs for the nursing program. Here is what I have to take. A&P2, Microbiology or Chemistry, and my College math. I am also doing my CNA and considering switching my sociology I took for Lifespan Development. Now I will only take 2 sciences with math and possibly Lifespan Development. I could do one science, my CNA class math and Lifespan and finish my final science in the summer. I just thought though I have to also take advanced A&P on top of having to take A&P2. Now I may already have a good job so I will hold offa bot for my CNA to focus on school. What I need advice on is, can it be done to take A&P2 with advance A&P I am taking A&P2 over. Any words of advice please.
  14. Thanks so much. I want this more than I have ever imagined. I am constantly thinking what my life would be like once I enter CNA/nursing. I am definitely a kinesthetic and visual learner. I absolutely loved looking at cadavers and doing dissections in A&P. I know that CNA is extremely demanding as there will be good days and days I just need to shake it all off! I know easier said than done. I absolutely adore older people so working in LTAC will be rewarding to me. I have dealt with loss in so many ways and am currently dealing with family members that can no longer function as they did years back. I must be prepared as working as a cna and nurse, I will deal with the loss of patients on a regular basis.
  15. Hello fellow students. I just enjoy AN its an exciting place to discuss all our future plans as we all are so similar but are different people. Different people with similar interests. I absolutely love nursing, I light up every time I talk about A&P or get into math figurations. I am super at Algebra, have not yet dont Microbiology but am so excited to take it. Anyway what do I do, so I got many calls for interviews PCA's Dialysis Tech's though I dont yet have my CNA certification. Would I have a chance at a CNA job if I started off in LTC working say in dietary/serving? Also the LTC facility I have recieved a call from for an interview offers CNA training, but currently have no course instructor. I need opinions, my grades are great I am 33, 2 kids 14 and soon to be 10. I have not worked in a long time so I think this is why employers are not hiring me. Please help fellow students.
