Pre-nursing student excited but with concerns

Published

:wink2:

Hello everyone! I am newly registered but have been reading forums for a couple of months. I waited to hear if I made it into the RN program because I felt like I would have more to talk about. I have really enjoyed reading different threads on here. I love hearing and talking to other pre-nursing students and beyond. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

My story is: I am in North Carolina, I am 37, married with 3 teenagers, 2 dogs, 1 cat, and 1 bird. I started our local community college in Spring semester 2007. I will begin the ADN program in Fall semester, Aug. 2009. Actually just got acceptance letter one week ago.

Are there anyone else on here in NC or close to Charlotte? I would love to here from anyone who has graduated or currently going to Gaston College in Gaston County.

Anyways, I am so excited and of course I hate the wait. This is the moment I have waited for. But, I do have some concerns that has really got me worried. I work full time now and my job is pretty stable and good benefits. I work for the county social services. The pay is fair but so much better than nothing. One concern is that I will have to quit my job come August and we are not real confident about my husbands job. :bluecry1: But, there's no way that I can turn down entering the program. That would be another year and half wait and still have to go through quitting my job for the two year program. Wooohhh! Decisions, decisions.:banghead: It literally keeps me nausious. -Not sure how to spell that last word. Sorry!

I know you all can't see the future and tell me what to do. Just venting and maybe there's others here in the same shoes.

Great Site!!!!!!!

The only way you could retain your job is if the nursing program had a night/weekend schedule. If that is not the case, unfortunately, you will need to quit. Maybe you could inquire about a part time or fill-in position. Good luck with school

I will work part-time if I need to. I've just heard that you will need alot of time to dedicate to homework and studying.

Thanks for the response.

Welcome!! And a big congrats on getting into the program.

I am fairly new here too. I am applying to the fall program in a little over a week. I applied for the spring program, but I did not get in. My schools number one qualifier is how long ago you finished your pre-reqs. (I finished last summer)

While I wait to get into the ASN program I decided to finish up my pre-reqs for the BSN progam.

I am 41 with no children and recently lost my job due to my school schedule. My boss was tired of changing things around every semester. He finally decided enough is enough. However I worked my butt off for him almost 8 years. I am now trying to decide what to do while I wait to see if I get into the fall program. I am looking into volunteering to get some experience. My hubby has a very stable job and is supportive. I find myself getting depressed that I don't have a job, but it is very difficult to find one. I am also really cutting back on expenses. We don't go out to dinner and I am much more aware of what I am buying at the grocery store.

I just really hope I get into the fall program.

Good luck in the program.

PB Pointer

Hello PBPointer!!

I also have begun worrying about money more than ever. This is an oppurtunity that I just don't want to pass up. We will just have to try and make ends meet.

Good luck to you. Hope you get in.:wink2:

Its a tough choice, but ultimately it is for you to make. Life is a series of choices that we make and no one can make it for you. Gluck, I know how you feel.

I would wait and see what you can personally handle. I know people who have had to not work at all, work part time, or even maintain full time employment while in school (this person was in a BSN program and managed to do it). Everyone can handle different things, and every school has a different schedule. I will also hopefully be starting my ADN this fall and I have no option besides working my way through and I will just have to find a way. I got my BA while working two jobs the entire time, so dont underestimate yourself. If the school has weird class times then just find a job that is more flexible (maybe a hospital or some place thats open late.)

Good luck!

I hope to be working as a CNA or Unit Secretary pt if I can find something once I get in, maybe you should try something like that if it gets to looking like you are going to need some extra income to make ends meet. Congrats, and GOOD LUCK!
