Hi,
Just wondering who is applying to GPC for fall 2011 and how everyone is feeling. I just took the Teas V two weeks ago and they put a message on the board that they would contact us in 3weeks and until then not to call them. This wait is KILLING me! I am so nervous. Does anybody know people that have already been accepted into the program or is anybody currently in the program?
Congrats Mommy2babies!!
The uniform must come from Meridys. That is the top and pants. But you can get your uniform in the bookstore on the Clarkston Campus. Sometimes they don't have certain sizes though. Thats where I got mine and you can try them on to make sure the size is right.
Lab coat is not a must. I don't wear one. But if you are going to get one, the lab coat does not have to come from Meridys so if you have a plain lab coat already or can find a cheap one you can use that but it must have the GPC patch. You can order the GPC patch from Meridys and sew it on. Its 4 bucks.
Your uniforms are your scrubs. You will only wear your uniform to Clinicals and on Check Off Days. You wear regular clothes to class.
Stethoscopes- I got mine as a gift and requested a Littman Cardio- so I can't really give any recommendations on which to get.
I don't think you have to spend that much on a steth though. I think the Littman classics are good too. I've used my classmates' and I hear very well with them. I've also seen people with cheaper steths and they don't have trouble hearing with them. I love my Littman Cardio but I'm glad I wasn't the one that paid for it. LOL!
I think its worth it to join GPCANS. Sad to say I haven't done it yet. The meeting times have not matched up with my schedule, but I'm hoping to do that next semester.
The Test Taking Success book is in the library so you don't have to buy it. I checked it out over the Christmas holidays with the intent to read it but never got around to it.
I took Link and Dosage. I am undecided about Link. It was OK but I felt I could have done without that class. Dosage was very helpful. I was already familiar when we started doing Dosage calculations but save your money. You will get the same info when you have your Pharm and Dosage lectures with Prof
mangopeach, thanks for your thorough answers! That is very helpful! Where did you take your CPR course?
No problem. I remember how excited and nervous I was last year too so feel free to ask away.
I took my CPR class at Georgia CPR. They are in Decatur so I don't know if that is convenient for you. Their website GACPR.com

I really appreciate that, mangopeach! I am still smiling 3 days after getting my acceptance letter!
And congratulations mommy2babies! That's great!
mangopeach, thanks for offering because I do have some questions:
1. Does the uniform have to come from Meridy's or is there a cheaper place to find the items?
2. Are their stethoscopes good or should I look around somewhere else? How do I know which one to choose?
3. Do we just need the lab coat or do we need scrubs too because I didn't see that on the sheet? If so, what kind of scrubs? Or do you wear regular clothes under your lab coat?
4. Is it worth it to join Ga PCANS?
5. The book they recommended for summer reading is "Test Success -- Test-taking Techniques for Beginning Nursing Students". Did you read it? Is it worthwhile?
I have a few more questions but 5 is enough for now. Thanks!!
