Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I am turning 21 this year. When I got out of high school, I went for pharmacy technician training and became a Certified Pharmacy Technician. I graduated when I was 19 and the site where I interned at is where I got hired. I have been trying to make up my mind as to be a Pharmacist or a Nurse, what I always wanted to be. After a traumatic experience I had to where I was suffering while still being fully aware and of the pain and could have died( an accident) I realized that that was what I wanted to be if a lived, a nurse to help others in similar or worse situations than I was in. I am fine now but the preclasses were what I was worried about. I have been studying because I took anatomy and physiology etc. in high school but needed refreshers. I am going to do the pre classes at a community college or a nursing school here that offers the pre classes on a generic health sciences track( if you decide you don't want to be a nurse and want to be a pharmacist, most of the classes transfer over to that program) I just worry a lot but were the pre req. hard for anyone? I was also wondering what I could expect on a college level

You are wise to keep your options open. IMO, it's a mistake to base a huge life-changing decision (like committing to nursing school) on feelings churned up during an intense experience that is not likely to be repeated. These types of things tend to accelerate the decision-making process. I like to tell my young-uns.... "Of course, follow your heart -- just make sure you take your brain along for the ride"

Health science pre-requisites ARE hard - justifiably so. You'll probably have to study and work much harder than your friends who are pursuing other types of majors. Is it worth it in the end? That decision is entirely up to you.

Anatomy and physiology were the hardest for me in terms of studying time but if you put in the effort then you will do well. In my experience, the ones who complain about how hard it is just didn't put in the effort or set aside the time needed to study like they should have. It's not easy to force yourself to study when you would rather be in bed early, but put in the effort and you'll see the results. Much like everything else in life!

Hi there! I am in my first semester of nursing school now and wanted to share my experience with you. First of all "hard" is so subjective! It totally depends on you! If hard means difficult to learn and retain the info, no. If hard means having to study and read more than I was used to then yes!

Already being a pharmacy tech will at least give you a huge advantage when it comes to phatmacology :)

The science pre-reqs were not as bad as I thought they would be, though they certainly required more time than my other college classes. My best suggestion is start small if you can. Take just an a&p class and nothing else that semester if you're really nervous about it. Test the waters if you will.

Luckily, we live in the great age of information and anything you have trouble with you can get more help online.

If you are diligent with your time managemnet and stay on top of your studies (don't try to cram!) Chances are you will succeed.
