Anyone switch from pre-nursing to pre-med?

I did the opposite. I switched from pre-med to pre-nursing but I took a year and a half off in between. Med school is a huuuuge commitment of time and money and that scared me when I was 18.

Yeah - I think most people do the opposite. But you can even do both, if you work hard.

Yes, I have a friend who changed from pre-nursing to pre-med this year. It is no biggie. Many of the pre-nursing requirements are the same on the lower-division level so he is not behind in his progress. Good luck.
I have to start all over...again...to do this. Even though my campus is supposed to be part of the main campus, many things still don't transfer. I need to do it now or waste another year..

I switched from Pre-med to nursing. I had all of my general ed classes and all but organic done for premed. I switched to nursing and start in Aug after only 5 years and 100 credit hours, woo hoo.

Well, I did a full 360! I started out college as a pre nursing student. I took Physiology and loved it! I ended up with a BS physiology with the intent to go to med school. During school, I was a volunteer doula and discovered that the philosophy of a nurse midwife was a better fit. Now I am planning to attend a grad entry program this summer. Whew!!!!
yes, the prereqs are very simalar but premed requires more math and science. Like calc 1 &2, organic chem, and a broad range of bio!
Good luck to you!

I graduated with a BS in biology with a pre-med emphasis and now I am going into an accelerated BSN in August. I had to take some prerequisites for nursing that were not covered by my degree, such as more theology, ethics, and sociology. I also had to retake my human phys class that I did in my undegrad because I got a C.
I have to say that a "C" in the premed physiology class more than equals the "A" I got in the pre-nursing physiology. Overall the depth of classes and the amount of material covered in pre-med classes tends to be higher than the pre-nursing classes. Be prepared for that.
Edit: also don't forget to check out the forums at the Student Doctor Network.
When I first switched to nursing I was asking if classes were ever weighted, as in a C in Chem one being worth more than a C in principles of Chem. When I was told no I asked why. Worst responce ever, "Who is to say its a harder class?" I was dumbfounded with that responce. I chose to take principles of chem and the A&P combo class AFTER taking A&P seperate and the cadaver anatomy lab and chem I & II. Those were some boring As I must say.

Judging by your name, I can only assume what school you go/went to (Rock Chalk, by the way). Are you switching schools for nursing or something? How come you're taking an A&P combo after taking them separate?
And I agree, Chem 1 is a hard class... it's why I switched out of being a Bio major. When I transferred schools I brought in my undergrad catalog to fight for transfer credits and my school basically said "As long as it's got chemistry in the title, we'll take it" as introductory chem or whatever the req was. But they didn't give it any extra weight either. I waited till I transferred to take organic chem, though, because I know too many people who have flunked 1, 2, and 3 multiple times.

I did exactly the opposite. I just finished my first year as a bio-chem pre-med major taking Cell Biology and Biochemistry, Animal Biology, and General Chemistry 1 and 2. I switched to pre-nursing because the dry science was kind of boring, and I wanted to take some classes that actually taught me SOMETHING about the human body during undergrad instead of having to wait 4 years until grad school. I hope to eventually get my master's and become a Nurse Practitioner or PA (I should have most of the prereqs done because I still plan on minoring in biology). Going to medical school is too much of a time commitment as far as I'm concerned.
And guess what? Even after taking the classes I took (some of which were much harder than the pre-nursing classes), I still have to spend an entire year taking prerequisite courses because unfortunately none of my pre-med classes counted toward the nursing... Even the chemistry! I get to go back and take a more elementary intro chemistry class in the fall. Looks like I get the spend another year in college... oh well, what's another 25k anyway? blah....
I mean I get to spend an EXTRA year... for a total of five years now because of the whole switching majors business.
