Hello!! I passed the HESI:D now its time to start application process! Any one else out there?? time is flying..I'm also applying to UT-Arlington!!
I hope we can all help each other in this thread :).. Good Luck Ya'll!!
I was also accepted into PVAMU for Fall 2011. I am just curious what everyone has heard about the program...Does anyone know if the program is regarded well by hospitals, etc? I have heard so much about UT and UTMB, but I am curious about what everyone thinks of PVAMU...how good of a program is it? Thanks in advance, and congrats to everyone!!

If you have a FB join us at our group"PVAMU Nursing Students Fall 2011". I haven't heard much about it either but I heard it was a great school.
I will join on Facebook. I am not on FB very often, but I'll add it :) I am glad that you at least heard it was a good school. A nurse, not realizing I had applied and been accepted to PVAMU, told me that a few years back, it had been sort of the "joke" BSN program...that was so discouraging. I was just hoping she was wrong!!! I am so happy to have been accepted, and I definitely want it to be a good program!

I believe that if it wasn't accredited by the state then it wouldn't be good. But since it is and you learn everything almost every other school does. I don't think the school makes most of the nurse, I think the knowledge and hands on training does. I worked with RN's in the Navy, I was a medic and I did WAY MORE than some of those nurses. Some were lazy and I vowed myself to never EVER be like them. I learned a lot from it thought bc at times I had my own patient load of 8 mothers and 8 newborns while some nurses had 4 or 3 and I gave them everything, only advantage to being a medic, you can do that. But never be discouraged about what people say. I never let them get me like that, bc if its your passion then nothing can get in the way. Good Luck.
Lets see..well the clinical uniform that you have to buy is 7$ for the patch, 30$ for the lab coat, $30 for the pants and I believe $40 for the shirt, all at the college of nursing book store. The only place that i saw the the pants and shirt at was scrubs and beyond which is located on main street, less than a mile from the school. I dont know how much they are selling it for though. However you WILL need these items (along with your medical bag, which you can purchase all the items in the bag seperately or altogether at the bookstore for $110, i think) by your first clinical day, which is usually about 5 weeks into your first semsester. Should give you enough time to look around different stores and hopefullly find it.
Hope that helped!
