Prairie view CON Fall 2010

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi,

I applied to the CON for fall 2010 and i was wondering if there are more people out there who applied too.

I've been reading some older posts and it seems like we wont know anything regarding acceptance until late April, early May

I am already ready to hear something and have no idea how i will make it that long.

Also i heard the CON is first come first serve? Any truth in that?

I turned in my clinical application Feb 19th and the deadline was March 1st. Is that too late?

Hey all,

Just switched majors from Accounting to Pre-Nursing so I'm looking into various nursing programs in Texas.

I get the impression that Prairie View is a 'typical college town'? What are the best off-campus apartments? Is there much to do in between studying? I'm a non-traditional student, btw (29).

Nevermind guys.

Just discovered that PV's nursing school was in Houston.

Even better.

On another note: So that's, like, 3-4 big nursing schools in the Houston area -- not to mention the various associate-degree nursing programs AND certificate programs? San Antonio has few. I'm sure Dallas has several, too.

Boy, Texas really churns out the nurses.

Surprised that anyone can find a job...

*laugh*

Yap PV-CON is in Houston Medical Center!!!

Houston sure has ALOT of nursing schools... and there's enough competition b/w so many candidates as well...

I know of only 2 schools in SA: UTHSC-SA (best one) and SA college...

Dallas: I dont think has as many as Houston!!

SA has incarnate world (i believe- its a private school though), dallas has TWU campus... not sure what else. Houston has Houston Baptist University, wharton juco, san jac ju-co, hcc, galveston college, utmb, twu, uthsc, pv.

Prairieview IS a small town, it's on a highway with almost *NOTHING* out there, a small town is next to it (Waller/Hockley), and the popular town Cypress is probably about 20-25 minutes away? I'm not soo sure about apartments out there.

Majority (if not all) nursing programs- you can transfer into. Take your pre-reqs, nursing entrance exam, and when you're almost done with classes, start applying. Of course you need to figure out which plan you want to take (ADN, Generic BSN, Accelerated BSN, etc,)

You can still apply if not all pre-reqs have been completed, or they're in the progress of completion? Are there any classes that MUST be completed prior to applying?

What classes did you still have to complete when you applied? I am looking into the LVN-BSN program as well but have a few pre-reqs left to be taken. I just wasn't sure what HAD to be completed prior to applying and hopefully receiving 'provisional acceptance' upon completion of those courses.

Also, does anyone know about the "no repeated courses" mention in the application process? Can you not have taken any classes more than once? And if you have, do they still even review your application? I'm nervous this may be a dealbreaker for me, as I have great grades but I did have to drop out of a class unexpectedly, and then retook it later.

Sorry for all the questions, and thanks so much for any help!!!! Congrats to everyone who got in, I hope one day soon I'll be in your shoes!!!

Hi Candace. I hope I answer all your questions correctly- my memory has let itself go since summer school started.

The repeating course thing is that you can take (I believe) 2 classes over again- if it is more than two than you can not apply (but please double check my word). You need to have all your sciences done and at least 41 credit hrs done- with intentions/enrollment in what's left to be finished by the time you start. I encourage you to apply as soon as you can- PVCON is first come first serve and you can get wait listed if others have all completed classes and you do not. Be sure to take your HESI exam and do well, keep your gpa above 2.75 and try if possible to not drop any more classes. PVCON will still review your app since you have a dropped course. Good luck!

Hi everyone!

:yeah:Congrats to all of you who have been accepted for Fall 2010 and i hope the summer classes are going well!

I am applying for Spring 2011 and i submitted my app in May and I have taken the HESI but i have to retake the A&P section b/c i missed by 3pts.. How did ya'll study for the A&P section? What were your GPA's? And any advice for the interview process? Thanks in advance!:)

Angel1990, we all took the NET... Which PV most recently did away with. We also did not have interviews. It is first come first serve. Good luck on retaking the HESI a&p!!

O ok!! thanls for the info! So when you say first come first serve you mean if Person A turns in everything first with satifactory stats and Person B turns theres in later on with extraordinary stats... Person A will get in before first even though Person B has higher stats? Sorry if its confusing i just want to make sure i understand!

Hey all! Will anyone be starting PV this Fall 2010? I am accepted into the LVN-BSN program. We all just took our Advanced Credit exams last week. Thank God I passed both so I will not have to do Pharmacology or Med-surg. I am nervous. I got a chance to see the LVNs that will be starting with me. There is only a few of us...I think maybe 10. Anyone else starting this Fall?

Angel1990,

You are right to an extent. Say PV is accepting 100 people, as soon as they get 100 people who turned in everything on time and who meet their requirement, those people will get acceptance letters. (Note i said 100 people who meet requirements not first 100 people to turn in applications. 200 may turn in applications and only 100 people may be eligible). Also the acceptance letter are provisional and can be revoked.

Now for the rest of the people who meet their requirements but turned in their applications late, they will get wait listed or possibly rejected. So if someone who got an acceptance letter and whatever reason can not attend PV, the first person on the waiting list gets their spot.

My advice, turn in everything on time and stay on top of PV. And if you stay in Houston, i would recommend you drive and hand deliver everything.

Good luck.
