  1. Do not depend on them to find you a preceptor- take it from someone in their FNP Houston class. There is a demand for preceptors across Texas (and the US) due to the number of available NP programs online. I would find a plan B just incase theirs does not work out.
  2. I started TWU's Hou FNP program in Summer 2016... Currently 11 months out from graduating in Spring 2019. It has been stressful and unorganized. Start finding preceptors for FNP 1, 2, 3 as well as preceptorship 1 & 2. GPA from undergrad was horrible (3.0ish), took the MAT and scored average. Work history wasn't extraordinary (1 year of ER, 1 year of med surg plus school nursing). I found out in mid Feb for summer acceptance. I checked online on webadvisor daily. I can't wait to get out. I probably would have tried a different school because it is so unorganized and has been full of busy work. Try to make friends with people in the program with you when you start. After while, your class will shrink.
  3. I've been a nurse for two years now... Still trying to find my area where I feel that "work isn't work." Started as a new grad in med surg for a year, school nursing for 6 months, currently in the ER for the past 5 months... still find myself wondering what's next and/or what else is out there. I feel kinda crazy for continuing to switch jobs/wanting to try different areas. I ask myself daily if I am happy in my area and that answer changes daily. How long have you been in your specialty? What area is it? Do you see yourself there long term? What other areas would you like to try? What other areas have you already worked?
  4. Can you (or anyone else) share your gpa and other stats? I am looking to start applying for graduate school (specifically FNP) but nervous because of my undergrad gpa... Thank you
  5. Texas uses IMMTRAC.. I am a school nurse for Houston ISD and our Health Manager sent names for all of us nurses to the IMMTRAC so we could have our own log ins. We do not report anything to the health department (under my knowledge, I am a new school nurse however).
  6. I am also starting a new position as a school nurse next month! I have a year of med surg experience and I am SO GLAD and RELIEVED to be able to start in the school. The school is a totally different place and environment than the hospital and I am thrilled to have this chance!
  7. If you really want a small town job.. Temple, Tx. Scott and white is the hospital in the area and is a teaching hospital. They will give you some money to relocate also. I am working here now. The town is small, near a military base, and cost of living is very affordable. Just have a heads up of what you are getting into. Look at glassdoor.com for the company reviews. I am trying my hardest to get back to Houston (where I am from) and in the area I want. Scott and White hires year round for interns. the turnover rate is very high. July makes a year for me. Good luck. PM me if you want any additional info.
  8. Hi everyone! I went to an open house back in March for April and May grads and was interviewed and hired on spot! I'm actually in Houston, graduating with my bachelors in May so I will be relocating. I'm excited :) good luck to everyone applying!! Keep in touch and I will be keeping my fingers crossed for everyone!
  9. Hey nurses!!!! Any updates on how St. Catherine's is? I am a year away from graduation but I am starting to look at GN residencies and was really looking at St. Catherine's because of the ER. I read all the previous posts, congrats nursea!!!!
  10. Angel1990, we all took the NET... Which PV most recently did away with. We also did not have interviews. It is first come first serve. Good luck on retaking the HESI a&p!!
  11. Hi Candace. I hope I answer all your questions correctly- my memory has let itself go since summer school started. The repeating course thing is that you can take (I believe) 2 classes over again- if it is more than two than you can not apply (but please double check my word). You need to have all your sciences done and at least 41 credit hrs done- with intentions/enrollment in what's left to be finished by the time you start. I encourage you to apply as soon as you can- PVCON is first come first serve and you can get wait listed if others have all completed classes and you do not. Be sure to take your HESI exam and do well, keep your gpa above 2.75 and try if possible to not drop any more classes. PVCON will still review your app since you have a dropped course. Good luck!
  12. SA has incarnate world (i believe- its a private school though), dallas has TWU campus... not sure what else. Houston has Houston Baptist University, wharton juco, san jac ju-co, hcc, galveston college, utmb, twu, uthsc, pv. Prairieview IS a small town, it's on a highway with almost *NOTHING* out there, a small town is next to it (Waller/Hockley), and the popular town Cypress is probably about 20-25 minutes away? I'm not soo sure about apartments out there. Majority (if not all) nursing programs- you can transfer into. Take your pre-reqs, nursing entrance exam, and when you're almost done with classes, start applying. Of course you need to figure out which plan you want to take (ADN, Generic BSN, Accelerated BSN, etc,)
  13. I didn't think of that... But it won't hurt to ask!
  14. registration is also available on june 1st by appointment only with (cant use names on here) but M.L. (initials)
  15. you should try emailing and asking about it to see if you are eligible. registration for classes is this upcoming tuesday (25th) frin 4pm-6pm.
