Practice exams....what do the scores mean??

Published

Hi guys,

I just started this week with this process of learning the "NCLEX way". I have several review books, and practice CD programs. My question...I am doing one to two practice exams a day, and holding in the 68ish range for total score....what exactly does this mean in relation to the NCLEX?? Fail miserably, pass by the skin of my teeth, or is that good??

I am just blown away by this test plan, the SATA's are especially daunting....all my straight A's seem to not be doing me a bit of good here...starting to think I am losing my knowledge base completely.

 Thanks for any light you can shed on it. (I am hoping to not get discouraged, but a lot of smart people seem to be squashed like bugs by this test.) :uhoh3:

The practice test scores should not be relied upon to predict NCLEX success. It has been known that it can go either way. The NCLEX is known as an unpredictable test. Just concentrate on preparing and rely upon your own judgement about your readiness to test. Good luck.

Thanks. I am reading and taking the computer practice test from 4 different books for about 6 hours, three days a week. More work, than work is!!

Unpredictable seems like a kind way to phrase it! :) I have a friend who took the test three times....every time was with the full 265 questions, max time, and it wasn't until the third go, that it was a pass...weird, huh?

Kaplan questions are pretty much what you see on NCLEX. See how well you do on those.

I agree with Redknights. For some other companies, you could be getting in the 90s to compare to a 68ish in Kaplan. There is a huge difference, so don't be complacent with a 68 if it's in a book that isn't known for it's incredibly impossible questions. You'd only be hurting yourself in the end...

Good luck!

Hi, Thanks for the advice! I have several, some I bought, some were gifts. I have read Kaplan, and done a few test from it, and have taken tests from the others. I love the audio set for the car, too.

"Kaplan Strategies, Practice and Review 2010" w/CD the most so far.

"NCLEX Review 4000 questions" by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins had some of the same questions as the Kaplan. CD.

"Davis's Q&A for the NCLEX" for the 2010 test plan w/CD. Includes the audio and the graphic questions, new for 201

"Saunders Strategies for Alternate Item Formats" w/CD

"NCLEX Review Made Incredibly Easy" book only.

I also have a 13 disc audio CD set by "Audiolearn NCLEX" which has 10 discs of review and questions, and then 3 discs of comprehensive test questions. I listen to them on my 1 1/4 hour commutes to and from work.

So, that is my orificenal. I am sure I will be asking for further clarification and guidance. Thanks to all who give their time to the rest! SO, back to the books!!
