I am tired of cutting up paper to measure PPD results. Some time ago, someone posted where we can obtain a plastic PPD measurement tape, and would like to know if anyone knows of anyplace I can access a few again. Thanks!

i have a flimsy plastic ruler with mm markings on it - i think i got it free from the DARE officers during a safety fair. Anything like that will work. I'll take a look once i get back to my own desk - if i have an extra i'll pm you for your address and mail it to you.

Try this site: CDC - Tuberculosis (TB)
I have gotten several from there and it is also a great site for TB teaching resources.
That's okay...I'd rather a resource because once I obtain one for myself, I would also share it with the rest of the nurses who are also reading with paper tape...LOL.

Greatly appreciated! Will try them now!
Just used the on-line order form. I have a question. I ordered them for myself, to be sent to my address because there is no guarantee that I would receive it at the work place. Our hospital is famous for losing mail for months at a time. Will the CDC take issue with that? Thanks again.
I've had resources delivered to both home and work in the past without any problem (except they can be slow at times).
Thank you. They said that the ordering limit is 50, I think, so, that's what I ordered. This way, I can give one to all of the nurses I work with. Altogether, it is 7 of us, so, I'll also have plenty of spares for those that float or in case one is lost. I really appreciate it. I hated wasting so much copy paper by printing, then, cutting up most of that paper, which renders it to be unusable as well as wasteful.
I just wanted to leave a note to thank you for the resource. I already had two packages sent...I now have 100 PPD measuring tapes and some literature to pass to patients about TB. I gave each nurse I work with three measuring tapes and STRONGLY suggested they do not lose them. Those nurses were so appreciative. Gave about 20 to my head nurse, another 20 to the nursing supervisor in case anyone runs out, and I will hold on to the bulk. You have no idea how we were functioning for SO LONG...this was really appreciated!

Can anyone direct me to a downloadable PPD measuring tool that we can print? We sort of got caught with our pants down--we are running our first testing for our office/nursing volunteers at our free clinic this week. We thought the measuring tool would come with the serum but it didn't. I can order from the CDC for next year but right now we need something we can use by the end of this week. Our mistake!
In the meantime, I'm going to check with our county health department and see if they're feeling generous enough to donate one til we get our own.
Thanks for the CDC information-we can actually download cards from them for next year.

Can you use wound measuring tools? I'm thinking of the clear plastic sheets with a bull's-eye type design on them measured in mm and cm.

Old trick...get a paper tape measure (they have an mm side) trim at the 1 mm mark..tape it flat onto a tongue blade.cut the bottom end to fit the end of the tongue blade. use the clear packing tape (2 layers and make it nice and flat with no wrinkles,,and clean it as well...lasts for years and years
You can usually get the tape measure in a CVC dressing kit or from peds (head circ measuments)
