Potential Nursing Student @ Broward College 2012

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello, next Monday I will be submitting my nursing application to Broward College. I am a little  worried that I wont get accepted. This is what I received for my course/degree requirements:

BSC1085 A

BSC1085L A

ENC1101 A

CHM1032 C

BSC1086 B

BSC1086L A

Also, I received an 83.00 on my Hesi. I obviously didn't do well during my prerequisites and my Hesi, but I am still

going to give a shot (its not easy working 50 hours + a week and attending school full time). I was wondering if

anybody out there was accepted to the program with similar grades and test score?

I know the program is very competitive.... so I guess we will see. Thanks in advance!

that's a gpa of 3.36, which is okay. when i enrolled the lowest gpa accepted was 3.2. i am not sure about your hesi, when i enrolled in august of 09 they did not use it towards the entrance only as guide for future benchmarks. if this is now used you can pay and retake it to get a higher grade.

important, as for working 50 plus hours and trying to go to that school... good luck. out of approximately 140 people on my first day (north campus only) i graduated with 17 of those people. yes 140 to 17. the actual number of people that graduated from north campus with me was about 50 people but 33 of those were retrackers i.e. failed or dropped out of the program at one point and had to come back into the program to graduate. some failed a class and had to retake it and graduated one semester behind me, some failed two classes and had to leave the program and complete lpn school before being allowed to reenter the program and some who were lpn's that came back to the program failed again and are no longer eligible to be in the program. i knew 3 people who worked and graduated ontime with me. i think only one of them was full time and she was a genius. all of the others who worked could not keep it up. :twocents:, work overtime now, go on a strict budget apply for financial aid and take out student loans so that you can afford not to work or work part time only.

So happy right now! I received an email that I was accepted to the Jan 2012 nursing program, cant wait super excited!

Congrats and many Blessings.

I was wondering if any of you used Evolve Study Guide for Hesi Exam.

Hello krei,

i did use the evolve study guide; that is basically all i used. I would focus more on the vocab than anything else. I had to take the vocab twice. Overall i scored a 93% on my hesi exam (not a 83%). The test is not bad at all. I was so nervous. As long as u study and go over the book you will be fine. Just so you know, some of the study questions for the most part are not the ones on the exam.

When do u plan on taking the exam? when do u plan on applying?

good luck! :)

Helllo Wendy88,

I know the above comment was intented for Krei (sorry Krei :)); and I just wanted to share a bit of my prenursing process. I plan to order the Hesi book to begin preparing myself mentally for the exam...I have not decided as to when I would want to take it, but it would be sometime next year. I'm actually looking forward to submit (with God's Grace) my application for the January, 2013 class and I'm not sure as to which campus, either North or Central.

I am planning on applying on broward college but was also anxious about my prerequisite grades. I got my BS and MBA degree from university of california but got A on chem, B on micro and physiology and C on my anatomy. Anyone got accepted with not so high prerequisite grades? Thanks

Hello Khris0214,

Congrats on receiving those degrees prior to deciding to go to nursing school. I was just curious, have you considered applying to an accelerated BSN program since you already have 2 degrees? Many universities offer it and you would not be in the same "pool" of applicants that are applying to the generic RN program. I just submitted my application for the May 2012 generic RN program and am in a similar position as you when it comes to grades. I really hope my gpa is enough to get me in. I wish you the best of luck!

Poor Future Nurse, Don't worry about getting accepted because, when I went to school back in 1981 it was difficult to get into the best programs which by the way were Diploma and you had to have at least a 3.5 avg but, since they're so short of nurses they accept just about anybody. With all the pathetic legislation on nurses the shortage will only get shorter so be prepared to work your tail off and don't think that just because, you get a BSN you won't have to clean butt, wipe up vomit, smell old blood, get slapped in the face by an outraged patient or family member because, you didn't get the pain medicine fast enough or get stabbed in the back by a co worker who thinks you want her job, or a patient dies because, you were so understaffed you didn't get to the patient in time while he was in cardiac arrest or!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! because you will encounter similar problems. I'm 56 and now studying to be a Veterinarian Technician. Ask yourself this question when you see all the open positions for nurses. Why are they're so many open positions? Change your program of study. Lots of luck you'll need it.

i agree with hope2bpicurn, you should consider the bsn option for the two advance degrees that you have obtained. as for the pre-req grades/gpa, everyone is different because your application is evaluted as a whole. that being said, some were successful in getting into a nursing program with low grades/gap and some were not successful in getting in with high grades/gpa. it all depends on the decision-makers. best of luck.
